4 Walls is the fourth full-length studio album by South Korean girl group, f(x), released on October 27, 2015 by SM Entertainment. This is the group's first release as four members since the departure of Sulli on August 7, 2015.
After a year of hiatus, it was announced, on August 7, that Sulli had officially withdrawn from the group to focus on an acting career, and that the group will continue to promote as a four members group with SM managing Sulli's acting endeavors.
On August 9, two days after Sulli's departure, Victoria, Krystal, Amber and Luna held their first official stage as a 4-member group at the "2015 London Korean Festival: Imagine Your Korea" event, giving a free performance at Trafalgar Square to celebrate the festival. It was also reported that over 35,000 people were in attendance for the festival.
On October 24, Sulli posted a photo of the 4 Walls album art on her Instagram account. All though not being apart of the group anymore, she still showed her support for their comeback.
Comeback as a quartet.
On August 13, SM Entertainment confirmed that f(x) is busy preparing for their fourth studio album (and first as a 4-member group), with a release date scheduled for September.
On September 1, it was reported that the members of f(x) would begin filming for their new music video this coming September 11. The search for a filming location and other detailed preparations were currently underway. A rep from SM further related, "The exact comeback period hasn't been confirmed. But f(x) will start promotions for a new album within this year."
On September 9, SM Entertainment confirmed that the group will make its comeback in October by stating: "f(x) is preparing and aiming for an October comeback." According to a music industry source, Victoria, Krystal, Amber and Luna are finalizing the last details of the recording of their album.
On September 11, an insider reported to news outlet, My Daily, that they would be filming their new music video on Jeju Island and stated, "f(x) went to Jeju Island on 11th September morning to film their new music video in top secret privacy". This music video will be their title track music video for their new album that will be released in early October.
Composition.
"Cash Me Out" was a track initially recorded by Swedish singer Zara Larsson and appeared on her EP Allow Me To Reintroduce Myself. SM Entertainment later purchased the rights to the song sometime prior to the release of Pink Tape, though the song was ultimately not included on the album. It was speculated that the song was initially chosen as the album's title track prior to "Rum Pum Pum Pum" being chosen, as scenes of the girls rehearsing choreography to Larsson's version can be seen on 2013's Go! f(x). It was also speculated that "Cash Me Out" was intended to be the lead single from a rumored Red Light repackage that was scrapped due to Sulli's abrupt hiatus, in part because during the 2014 SMTown tour, Luna was seen performing with "Cash Me Out" armbands. After the release of 4 Walls, more clips of the group's dance practice from 2013 was leaked on Twitter.
"When I'm Alone" was initially a song written and co-composed by Carly Rae Jepsen during sessions for her second studio album E•MO•TION (but was ultimately left off the final tracklist) and later was purchased by SM Entertainment.
