Biography
Pluck is the name of a duo formed in New York City in 2011 featuring Wu Fei (guzheng) & Gyan Riley (guitar), who were introduced to each other by John Zorn.
In previous projects, the artists have also collaborated with musicians such as Zakir Hussain, Bela Fleck, Fred Frith, John Zorn, and Terry Riley.
Pluck is also a rock band originating at Newsome High School in Lithia, Florida.
The roots of Pluck started in the small town of Mount Morris, NY, just outside of Letchworth State Park. This is where singer/songwriter Brock Saltsman, drummer Ben Chesnes, bassist Alyssa Zaso, and guitarist Javan Levey formed an unbreakable bond through their friendship and mutual love of music. They wrote and recorded an EP under the name Quasars in the Mist while most of the band was still in high school, and soon parted ways as members graduated and pursued education and other projects.
Seven years later in late-2019, Brock, Javan, Alyssa, and Ben found themselves in closer proximity and Pluck rose from the ashes of Quasars. After their reunion was delayed by the pandemic, Pluck has now recorded a full length record at Submarine Sound Studio and is ready to bring their particular brand of alternative-indie-rock to Rochester, NY and beyond. Their debut album “Warm Safe Kind” is available now.
