Biography

Redencion 911 (Redencion Nueve Once or Redencion 9-11) was a hardcore punk band from Santiago, Chile.

Born in 1997 from the ashes of Octopus and SND (Sin Nombre Definido), the members of R911 had all been participants in the early Santiago Hardcore scene, Patricio (drums) played drums in the final line up of Golpe Decisivo (who some say was Chile’s first bona fide hardcore band). They were part of a small but growing DIY-inspired hardcore scene together with other contemporary bands like Silencio Abosoluto, Disturbio Menor, Alternocio, Donfango, Enfermos Terminales, Asunto, Fuerza de Voluntad, etc…

The original line up was Patricio (drums), Jaime (bass), Se Kyu (guitar) and Joao (vocals). Throughout the years the line up remained pretty stable with the exception of bass players, Redencion had 4 different bass players throughout its existence and at times would add a second guitar player for live performances. Redencion 9-11 played mostly in Santiago with occasional trips to Valparaiso, Chillan, Concepcion and neighbouring Argentina.

Redencion 911 recorded two tape demos (on in 1997, the other in 1999), one split cassette/CD with 720 from Argentina on AMP Records (1998), a split demo cassette with Marcel Duchamp on Masapunk (2000) and a full length CD and 7”ep through Masapunk and Amor y Lucha (Washington, DC) in 2001, this was their final recording.

Before breaking up in 2002, Redencion 911 toured the East Coast of the U.S.A. in the Winter of 2001 sharing the stage with bands like Kill the Man Who Questions, Zegota, Del Cielo, Crispus Attucks, The Paper Chase, Iron Lung, and many more. After the breakup, members of Redencion 911 went on to play in Nevski and Illuminati. Joao (vocals and guitar) nos plays in Birds & Wires, a Washington, DC based four piece.
