Biography
Although they began back in 2005 as a two-member local curiosity, Ruiz current lineup dates from mid-2007. In that year, they self-released EP Taste! and made a „partisan“ video for the song „Porn Stars from Mars“, which has become a mini legend. Shot in just a few hours, the video stayed on the first place of the charts of a Croatian Television youth program. The band has played some seventy concerts in Croatia and Slovenia, including major festivals such as VipINmusic Festival, Art&Music, Priredba and Barufe. In Slovenia, after winning the regional band contest YoungGunZ Tour 2008, they played at the country’s most prominent festivals: LENT, TRNfest and ŠKISova tržnica and established excellent contact with the audience in Slovenia. In early 2009 a debut album, Erupt!, is released on Sonic Doom Records. It's a sort of “the best of” songs created and played over the past three years. The album was recorded on analog tapes and mastered by Bob Katz, a three-time Grammy winner. Combing the aesthetics of Kyuss and Nirvana, dance elements of Gang of Four and Rapture, and the unrestrained playing by At the Drive-In, Ruiz have achieved a distinctive author’s expression which is difficult to genre categorize. Anyone who has ever heard Ruiz knows that the music is furiously played direct pop songs that resound contagiously in one’s ears and those who have heard them live have witnessed the explosiveness of their performance
