Biography
stacia bethens in an unsigned folk singer/songwriter. originally from mississippi she is currently in the greater cincinnati ohio area. her influences range from folk artists like: garrison starr, dar williams, ani difranco and richard shindell to rock acts like skunk anansie, sister 7, placebo and even some mudvayne.
her sound is often compared by listeners to early jewel.
she has three self recorded releases: "the middle of impossibility", "summer sampler", and "as yet untitled". she has written songs for a fourth album "bitter/sweet" that have never been recorded.
stacia began playing piano at age 4, taught by the suzuki method, a technique where children are taught to play only by "ear", or hearing music. learning to read music doesn't come until the student is well into his or her music education. she started playing guitar at age 14. suffering from a nearly debilitating fear of performing stacia has played live only a few times over the last decade.
stacia focuses on the lyrical content of her songs which are often poems set to music. her themes deal with personal subjects such as love, loss, depression, being openly gay, and feminism.
