starfish64 was founded in february 2006 in Giessen/germany by singer-/songwriter Dieter Hoffmann (st64) as a vehicle for his musical vision. Late 2006 saw the release of a first folk-pop styled single called on either side produced by his friend and collaborator kassühlke . Recordings for full length album started in early 2007 aswell as mostly "unplugged" touring as starfish64 & kass|ühlke in germany. An Ep entilted playground still in some folk-pop mood saw the light of day in may 2005. The line-up at the time was: st64 (vocals), kassühlke (bass and guitars), Jonas Steben (drums), Marvin Glöckner (piano and keybords); Daniel Müller (guitars). The idea of a more sophisticated and conceptual piece of music what had to become the doldrums of mr. richman already was born at that time. It finally saw the release in april 2008 focusing on a 19 minute suite and three more individual tracks recorded by the same line-up. Marvin Glöckner quit collaboration shortly after this release to concentrate on producing at his own recording studio. st64 started to compose and record demo versions for a follow-up album at his own home-studio in september 2008. A complete album demo of platform eight was finished by the end of march 2009. For serveral reasons a studio recording for this album could not be realised and st64 finally decided to release a revised version of the demo in october 2009 for free download on last-fm and his myspace-site.

At the time st64 is working on a new album with the working title "a matter of gravity"
