Biography

Multi-talented songstress, Tanu, is making a name all her own in the world of triple-threat entertainers. Tanu combines her East-Indian and Native American heritage into her music, style and dance, giving her an eccentric edge. The recording artist, entertainer, songwriter, actress, model, and vocal productionist takes her inspiration from such greats as Cher, Annie Lennox, Diana Ross, and Sade. Much of Tanu's musical background started with classical piano from the age of 7, as well as singing in various choirs in the DC/Maryland area.

At a young age, Tanu was signed to Elektra records as a part of a local girl group. She opened for acts such as Mya, Destiny’s Child, Ashanti, and Mary Mary. She joined the WPAS C.O.G choir, and performed on the steps of the U.S. Capitol for former President Clinton’s 2nd Inauguration and at the prestigious Kennedy Center. In 2009 she performed onstage behind legendary artist, Sting, at the Kennedy Center Honors Awards honoring Bruce Springsteen. Tanu has also been in two different U.S. tours as an opening act for various major recording artists, and has proudly sung the National Anthem at major sporting events such as Wizards and Mystics home games.

Her acting career began once she was cast in a lead role playing alongside of actor Allen Payne, (Tyler Perry’s House of Payne), as his daughter in the stage play A House Is Not A Home and this summer she was cast in the BLT Theatre’s- A Sentimental Journey Through Music stage play.

Tanu is inspired to pursue many more opportunities in television, film, and music. She is also a Hearing and Speech Pathology major, and has hopes of acquiring a doctorate degree in Audiology.
Tanu has been able to write and be featured on albums with such artists as Amerie, Mya, Carmen (Atlantic), Cassidy, Young Leek (Def Jam), Too $hort, and Sting. Tanu has been able to write and record with various producers such as K1/Beatfactory (Pussycat Dolls, Mary J. Blige), SoulDiggaz (Beyonce, Missy Elliott), RocWilder (Christina Aguilera), BlackOut (Mims), reggae legend Tony Kelly, Soundz, KingBeatz, and Bangladesh (Beyonce, Lil Wayne).

Most recently Tanu wrote and is featured on Flo Rida’s “Came Up” with Billy Blue and Briscoe. Other recent collaborations and writing credits include “LICKY” feat. Flo Rida/Tanu.
