Biography

The Dozen Dimes is one of several side projects of Nashville-based singer/songwriter Matt Friction. The band, mainly a doo-wop/garage outfit, was formed in 2010 and released only one album, Get Real Gone With the Dozen Dimes. Members include Matt Friction on guitar and vocals, Brandon Jazz on drums, Nathan Hansen on bass, and Austin Edwards on keyboard. The band shares stylistic elements of Friction's other previous bands, combining elements of 50's rock 'n' roll and doo-wop with garage, soul, and psychedelic pop. In accordance with their 50's doo-wop musical style, the band performed in powder blue leisure suits embroidered with the initials DD. As such, fans will sometimes refer to the band as DD among themselves or others who are familiar with the act.

The lead man, Matt Friction, was formerly the lead of The Pink Spiders, who enjoyed temporary mainstream success. After disputes with their record label, Geffen, the Pink Spiders temporarily disbanded and rejoined for a final album with Matt as the only original member, in addition to Nathan Hansen (now the bassist of The Dozen Dimes). Matt Friction and Brandon Jazz have also worked together outside of this group.
