Biography
The Woodpickers are a recording project of musician and writer John Murphy. John Murphy plays bass, guitar, mandolin and writes and produces for the Woodpickers. John spent 8 years as a founding member of The Foreday Riders, a well respected blues band which after 39 years still exists. He also played in many country and roots bands through the '70s and '80s. This is where he met other members of The Woodpickers: Kevin Bennett, Bill Chambers, Doug Rowe and Broderick Smith.
The two recordings, Reason And Dream, and the recently released Me And Ned Kelly, have recieved worldwide airplay and charted in the top 20s in America, Europe and Australia. Both CDs have had five star reviews in Australia and overseas.
The music features dobros, mandolins, accordions, guitars, harmonica and superb harmonies supplied by Doug Rowe and others. Doug, a former member of Australias Flying Circus, had many hits in America and Canada in the early '70s, as did Broderick Smith with The Dingoes in the '70s. Bill Chambers is a solo act in his own right with several great CDs available. Bill also tours the world with his wonderful daughter, Kasey Chambers. Kevin Bennett, with The Flood, is currently bashing down doors and presenting the Australian public with world class roots music.
