Biography
widowdusk is a 5-piece screamo band based in southern California which formed in 2022. widowdusk would originally begin with releasing their first single in June of that year titled, “woodbury town centre (bedroom demo)”, and months later, they would sign with Self Versed Records to then release their debut EP, “I know where we’re at, not where we’re going.” in the following August.
widowdusk had seen an incredulous surge in popularity following into 2023, originally only having a few hundred listeners nearly all based locally in California, after being heavily distributed across the platform TikTok alongside many other bands in the scene due to their unique revamped emergence of screamo in April of that year. They would continuously find themselves within a bigger and bigger audience until September of that year, in which they experienced monumental growth. A gigantic wave of new listeners had hit due to the increasing popularity and demand for new-wave screamo (commonly referred to as skramz) all at once. widowdusk would begin finding themselves selling out venues they had never expected to even play in, changing their lives forever, all while they had been planning to become inactive.
Even after an immense uptick in popularity, the band had chosen to ultimately go their separate ways in December of 2023 due to the fact they had graduated high school that year and were moving onto college. Due to this, people had immediately begun to reminisce on the stranglehold widowdusk had on the emerging new wave of emo music. Although, despite this, they are not defunct. widowdusk has stated although they are currently doing their own separate things in life, they have released their debut album and continue to play shows, even announcing a split with veteran screamo band In Loving Memory, released on September 13th of 2024.
The band consists of members:
Jordan Esparza - vocals
Jace Esplin - guitar
Brody Boice - guitar
Levi Lucas - bass
Kurt Zoebelein - drums
Jace and Jordan also play together in backbeforestreetlights, letsmakenothinghappen, and Ted Williams
Levi also played in The Elian Script
