The cure, The Sister of Mercy, Siouxsie and the Banshees.. This is Gothic (Post-Punk is the true Gothic), not this shit of teenagers band or pale face and morbid songs with heavy guitars.. (by the way, some bands are amazing but aren't Gothic).

What is "gothic metal"? I don't think a post punk Can be mixed with Metal to be "Gothic metal". For me Gothic is post punk, maybe dark wave too.. IMO, HIM and The 69 Eyes are most closer of Hard Rock than "Gothic Metal", in HIM case: themselves tagging "Love Metal", for me, it's wrong tag cus "Love Metal" (in Heavy Metal/Hard Rock) is a genre.. but it's more accepted than "Gothic Metal" or ",Gothic Rock", by the wtf is goth metal? M lol. Look at the Nu Metal/Alternative Metal (Evanescence), Doom Metal/death-doom (Type O Negative/Paradise Lost). it's just bands with pale skins with morbid or sad songs.. it's goth? Hmmm... seems goth to you? If the answer is "yeah", ok, it's your opinion, mainstream has the same opinion, but me..no... there's much guitars distortion to be goth.. Guitars aren't focus in "old goth" songs if you want to listen Goth, listen to: Siouxsie and the banshees, The Cure, Joy Division, The Sisters of Mercy and etc.. I was "studying" about it.. it's my conclusion.

I remember seeing a picture of Amy and Mana together in some east meets west Goth event. He was dressed up head to toe with a gentleman's coat coloured black and white, along with cross rings and his signature dix hair and makeup. Meanwhile, Amy looked like she just walked out of a Walmart with a handful of cross necklaces while in a green sweater and yoga pants. And still, people claim that Evanescence is "Real Goth"...

The way you dress isn't indicative wether or not your music is gothic rock (and sry, None of Mana's projects are Gothic Rock, maybe very early Tetsu-era Malice Mizer). The guys from Bauhaus, Joy Division, Red Lorry Yellow Lorry, etc. all dressed relatively boring, yet their music was goth or influenced the genre. No matter what Amy wears, it doesn't make her bands' music goth. And hell, even Evanescence haven't claimed to be related to goth, it's the press and angsty middle school kiddies who always put them there.
