If done right, this genre can leave you feeling powerful, motived and strong. If done wrong it can leave you feeling incredible amounts of cringe.

-Why this genre is called "power metal" when it's just more fun than rock but less edgy than any metal genres? -Because contrary to other metal genres, this one has more complex chords, faster rhythms and more hopeful lyrics, and above all a lot of energy, that's why it has that power that other metals don't have.

Hate on power metal from some metalheads is hilarious given that this genre is way closer to traditional heavy metal than black metal or death metal, at least formally in terms of composition and musical features if not in spirit. I get it that power metal is overtly pompous and lightweight sometimes, but even if you dislike it, power metal is much more diverse than many people believe (and this still holds even if you don't consider so-called USPM scene a part of power metal genre). Apart from symphonic and poppier arena rock influenced artists, there are many heavier power metal bands, speed/power or traditional metal-inclined bands, which retain epic feeling without being too pretentious or cheesy. To my taste, power metal is not that attractive on average, but at its stronger moments it really shines.

Power Metal is just lighter and brighter Black Metal: black metal fans/musicians, similar to power metal fans/musicians, will take photos unironically using armor, axes, swords and other medieval cliches, thinking it's cool enough to be in an album cover, the difference is: black metal use black armor and the photo was taken in the basement of their parents, which looks like an old dungeon. On other hand, power metal use bright armor and the photo was taken right before their next section of D&D
