It was a bit of a phenomenon around 2012-2014 with musicians creating music based on MLP and now it has kind of fizzled out. No real big loss. In about 20 years from now, a few of these musicians may look back at their recordings and say "what was I thinking?!"

I LOVE the show. But brony "music" is among the worst things ever invented. It's one of the main reasons I distance myself from the whole fandom.

disgree with that below. that might be a small bit of the younger crew (teens after all) but most people see peace, love, unity, and respect as an essential part of the community. <----- A lot of the shit I see from bronies comes from people in their twenties. Instead of yelling about how WE'RE NOT ALL LIKE THAT, actually call out the people in your fandom.

the characters of MLP:FiM aren't popular for what they are, they're popular for what they're not. it's EXACTLY like the Sonic the Hedgehog cast. sure, nerds are initially attracted to them because they're colorful and cute with a hint of modern 'coolness'... but the real reason they're so popular is that their personalities are so shallow and vaguely defined ('the bookish one', 'the shy one', 'the tomboyish one') that you can project any strange perversion you want over them and it won't really feel 'out of character'.

first brony hater to post here. this goes pretty far beyond just fandom. making mlp part of your identity that somehow enters even your musical taste shows that you aren't just watching the show because you like it, but because you are trying to prove something. not even harry potter fans made their own genre of music. because of this, you can not make the argument that it's "just a good show" any longer--it's become some sort of infantile-regression-hipsterism religion. the cognitive origins of these artists are similar to the endless fanart spawned by my little pony--the idea is that the real world is unjust, but in the world of mlp fandom, everything is accepted intelligently, and your music and art will be judged on its merits alone. however the only reason people listen to this "genre" is this polarization of acceptance and rejection into ingroup-outgroup division, and the implicit acceptance of absolutely anything that has the word "brony" attached to it.
