Conga is a Cuban music genre that emerged alongside Rumba cubana during the late 19th century. In contrast to rumba and Danzón, conga is usually played in public celebrations that involve hundreds of people, such as Santiago de Cuba's carnival. Conga ensembles consist of a very large and heterogeneous percussion section and a small wind section (trumpets). They always include repetitive sung choruses.
