Emo-pop is a style of music with origins in the movement of the 1990s. Taking cues from artists such as The Get Up Kids, The Promise Ring, and Jimmy Eat World (Bleed American in particular), it takes the sentimental crooning of and, using as a base, rehones and sharpens the sound for a greater mainstream appeal. As a result, the songs are more pop-oriented and radio-friendly than the earlier waves of emo, utilizing clean studio production, verse-chorus-verse structure, a reliance on infectious hooks, and a fast-moving energy heavily indebted to . The lyrics tend to be confessional in nature, delving into topics such as love, anger and resentment resulting from heartbreak, and as always, self-deprecation and introspection.

Though emo-pop greatly distances itself from the movement of the 1980s, both musically and philosophically, still has a huge role in the overall sound, thanks to bands like Taking Back Sunday (Tell All Your Friends), The Used, Silverstein and much more. The aforementioned album was one of the many releases that made the genre achieve mainstream success in the 2000s, with several artists associated with the genre having gone on to release platinum-certified albums, including Fall Out Boy and Paramore.

Since then, the genre has declined in popularity, but it's found a new life in the 2010s DIY emo revival scene. Nowadays, bands like Mom Jeans., Origami Angel, and Modern Baseball exchange alternative rock's commercial appeal in favor of an even greater emphasis on the pop punk influences and a return to its midwest emo roots.
