Wiki

A joik (yoik) is a traditional form of singing or chanting by the Sami people in the far northern Norway, Sweden, Finland, and in the Kola Peninsula in the far northwest of Russia. It has few, if any lyrics, is often acapella, and comes in various forms depending on the geographic location of singers. Once suppressed by Christian missionaries from the south as a pagan practice, it is now coming back. It may produce overtones reminiscent of throat singing by other cultures.
