I sort of agree that this tag is just as useless as the 'female vocalists' or 'gay' tag if it's simply a case of "busting out the old lable maker". However, considering the political implications of the term 'queer', I'm okay with it being used as a tag denoting certain themes said 'queer' artists touch on in their lyrical work and/or artistic style.

'female vocalists' isn't useless tag.. it's pretty obvious difference between male and female voice, and the second one is kinda rare in some sorts of music. For example, I usually don't like female voice, but I'd tag by 'female vocalists' bands with woman on vocals which I enjoy. Anyway, I agree with your point on queer tag, although I haven't thought that way before.

I think the point of calling "female vocalists" a useless tag is because a "male vocalists" tag basically doesn't exist on Last.fm, certainly it's far less common than the female one, implying that male vocals are the default. So basically the female vocalists thing serves to separate female vocals from the "normal" male vocals which is quite ridiculous when you think about it.

I'll gladly take any flak someone might wanna give me for saying this... cause i like talking with people... but i thought "Queer" was doing a good job in losing any connection with homosexuality, for those who would be offended by it.
