Swedish music is produced by ethnic Swedes or people resident in Sweden.
It can sometimes be difficult to classify a music type which is typical Swedish; consider its wide popularity range in all kind of genres in today's modern music scene. Some tend to categorize Swedish folk music as most Swedish, with the typical native old norse sound consisting of violines and nyckelharpa back in the 17th and 19th century.

Sweden has had a major influence in modern music that belies its small population and remote location. Exported groups like ABBA, The Cardigans, and Ace of Base all had great success making pop music aimed at Anglophone audiences. Sweden produces the most chart hits per capita in the world, followed by the UK and the USA. In the 90's, Swedish musicians at Cheiron Studio in Stockholm wrote and produced breakout teen-pop acts from America, namely Backstreet Boys, NSYNC, and Britney Spears.

More recently, the country's exported internet-based cloud rap artists Yung Lean, Bladee, Thaiboy Digital, and Ecco2k, among others.

Sweden has also historically dominated the Scandinavian music scene, with Danes and Norwegians listening to music in Swedish rather than the other way around.
