I don't think it's about culture but more-so the fact that it isn't necessary- spotify doesn't really do much for artists anyways especially if you look at royalty rates- so why make some company a little extra money when you can make all the money you need doing live sets y'know, and have that legendary warp catalog?

nah i agree with vertsk8er419. Mr RDJ is always releasing music secretly trying to make you work to hear it. like he did with The Tuss and all the other obscure records he put out. which has carried on with him now leaking things on soundcloud under aliases. i see his thinking as being more of an extension of that as he has alluded in interviews his romance towards the act of randomly discovering music while searching in record shops. - but personally i'm at the point where i just want to listen to his enormous catalogue now without having to download it or play it off youtube every time.

Yeah, that's fair. But I'm still under the impression he just doesn't need to since nothing's really in it for him. People will still listen to his music no matter how much it's hidden or inaccessible.

Yeah, he released like 300+ tracks on his soundcloud user18081971, sadly most of them were put on private, but they can be available thru a watmm thread that contains a mega.nz with all the tracks he uploaded to sc, most of them are 320kbps because he made them available to download (so generous) , and also you can buy some of these tracks remasteded and in flac or wav quality on his bleepstore as bonus tracks on some of his officially released albums.
