Agreed, they have so many great deep cuts over the years. Their Agents-Revolution era is my favorite but I love it all!

Self-titled album is a masterpiece. Certainly some great stuff throughout their catalog

their most recent live album has such a terrific version of Astronomy, wish they'd do that one live more. I've seen BOC live a dozen times and heard it only once or twice.

(Don't Fear) The Reaper is such a mediocre song compared to most of their discography. Also that cowbell is insanely annoying and I'd love for a version without it.

Not really. Just because it was their commercialy most successful single it's not automaticaly their best (not that there's objective reasoning on that anyway). That's like saying that "I don't wanna miss a thing" by Aerosmith is the best Aerosmith song when in actuality it wasn't even written by the band.

There's atleast one or two song on each of their albums that match Reaper in terms of catchiness and songwriting. Even on the newer albums. These are equally great and only not iconic because they haven't been commercialy successful and entered the pop cultural memory. Reaper has been on SNL, featured in countless TV Series and so on. To people that aren't into the BÖC catalogue this might be the best thing since sliced bread but if you take all of this away then yes; good song but nothing special in the grand scheme of things when considered the rest of the BÖC discography. For me it's not even the best song on Agents of Fortune. Listen to Tainted Blood from The Symbol Remains and then Reaper. These songs are easily on par when it comes to catchiness, songwriting, emotion.

Their discography is just so full of hidden gems. Many overlooked songs on Club Ninja, such as Madness to the Method, White Flags

They are kind of not rated enough especially considering how good they really are. For a lot of people it is this more cowbell meme band who has Don't Fear The Reaper song. And don't get me wrong, it is a good song, but they have a lot of deeper cuts that are not worse or even better but not too many people know anything else. And I'm not even talking about average listeners who listen to whatever is played everywhere but people who are quite into music. BÖC don't get much credit too often.

By that reasoning, AC/DC and Led Zeppelin would be underrated compared to even bigger bands like The Beatles or Pink Floyd. To me, it always feels a bit futile when people throw around terms like "underrated" or "overrated." It seems they can't properly articulate their thoughts and fall back on such vague expressions. Blue Öyster Cult have sold 25 million records worldwide, including 7 million in the United States. For comparison, AC/DC's "Back in Black" sold 50 million copies globally, while "Led Zeppelin IV" sold over 37 million. No, Blue Öyster Cult are not underrated; they’re simply not in the same league. Not even close.

Astronomy, Godzilla, Transmaniacon MC, Veteran of the Psychic wars. So much music to uncover and explore.

Blue Öyster Cult were big in the '70s but fell into obscurity afterwards. Usually only lovers of that era will come in contact with them, unless, of course, they play any rock playlist and will inevitably be facing the reaper.

I know someone who thinks the same thing. I do agree that they have way better songs than the reaper that make it look generic in comparison.

Spectres was I think one of the first full albums i've ever listened to outside of some greatest hits compilations. As time has gone on I've begun to view it as a perfect album in many ways. The diversity of the tracks, while still maintaining such a high quality... maybe hearing it at such a formative time has left me biased but i come back to listen often, and there is this magical, mysterious aura around it that is unmatched among all the music I've listened to.

I have to get into these guys' discography solely because of their amazing song titles/album covers and the fascinating conspiracy theories surrounding their music 🤪

(Don't Fear) The Reaper may be the greatest song of all time, but their entire discography is replete with gems of forbidden and esoteric rock power. Harvest Moon all the way in 1998 is something profoundly spiritual. My favorite band ever.

Might depend on your location sadly. I've seen some Americans complain about albums not being on their Spotify that are there in my country (Finland)

WHY DIDN"T I DISCOVER THEM EARLIER!!!! They were always on my recommended but I never showed any interest until autoplay did the sneaky and I was mindblown. BOC is just wayyyy too dope.So psychedelic, so metal, so heavy, yet so soft, so prog. They're like a mix of everything and yet they do it perfectly. The lyrics are superb and so poetic. Extremely relatable songs too.

It was always suggested on Spotify, but I love BOC so much now. I can't get enough of it. Usually when I listen to new songs, it doesn't stick around this long. Very few songs can stick so well.
