I did like Devil, but the biggest problem I had with it was that they got Thomas Erak into the band and hyped it up a shit ton because of him, only for the album to end up being almost literally Bone Palace pt.2 with none of the interesting ideas from Illuminaudio or even anything resembling The Fall Of Troy. And then they kicked out Tanner Wayne (who is a ridiculously good drummer) and replaced him with the old drummer who is absolutely nothing to write home about. Like, they could just have gotten some kid from a random high school metalcore band and it would have been the same exact thing.

lmaoisgodreal: You're being pretty generic yourself right now. ADTR has released ALOT of good stuff. Breaking Benjamin ain't the same genre even. Of Mice & Men has also released a ton of good shit, even tho their new road is not for every old fan. I liked Devil, I just liked Bone Palace and All's Well a bit more.

I mean...what's wrong with liking ADTR, Breaking Benjamin, etc.? I personally feel like Chiodos' older music is about wrestling with personal demons while at the same time dealing with the judgment of others. If you're truly about their older music, then don't hate, appreciate.

I have no idea how anyone could prefer the sound on Devil. It's generic modern post-hardcore at its finest. Chiodos lost nearly all identity on that album and the lyricism, though never a strong point, is at its worst. I'm willing to bet Devil is the last album we'll see from these guys, but if they do release another LP, I'm hoping it's more in the style of their debut or BPB, or somewhere in between.

If they continue to build on the "Devil" sound, I might like this band quite a bit. Don't get me wrong, some of their older stuff is cool too, but as of right now I prefer the newer material.
