Something I find fascinating on last.fm is how the artist picture colours seem to go between colour dominant and b&w dominant almost as if the world has the same vibe at the same time. I've seen it happen for year long periods where b&w are the dominant pictures across all of my top artists with colour pictures being voted down immediately. Then it changes and the b&w pictures become rare. Right now my top artists are heavily colour dominant, 10/10 of them are colour pictures.

really obsessed with this performance right now. always loved She Belongs To Me from hearing this version on Self Portrait so that was the song I focused on first. Now all the rest are pouring in my ears. Lay Lady Lay, Quinn The Eskimo, St. Augustine. It's a shame he didn't tour with The Band at this stage because they sound fantastic together here.

Definitely fond memories. He and I listened to a lot of obscure folk music and more than once reminded each other of a song we had long forgotten. How are you doing with everything going on in the world?

All time favourite is a real tough one. For me it's between 1970-5-2 Harpur College and 1972-5-26 London. Harpur college for its acoustic set followed by the blistering electric set and London for the Truckin' through Sing Me Back Home run of songs. If I had to choose I'd probably go with London. They really slammed into that last night of Europe with full force, the band are tight as hell and it's one of the last times we hear Pig too. The Morning Dew from 26 is what got me on the bus back in 2008 :) What about you?? Got a favourite?

Sunshine Daydream is outstanding. The China Rider and Bird Song are miles above any other versions of those songs, it's unexplainably euphoric. I remember hearing the whole Harpurs show from beginning to end, and by the time i heard the acoustic IKYR i was in tears. The Other One is a fabric tearing version, totally unique and driven. But my all time favourite (for now) is the Truckin > The Other One >Jam from 4/21/1972. Find the video on YouTube, both Truckin' and TOO is fire and flames, and the angelic jam after the last words of TOO is beautiful and totally Dead. What got me on the bus was The Eleven from Live/Dead, it all hit me at once! Oh and by the way, the Sing Me Back Home from 5/26 is probably Dead at their most beautiful. Thanks man!

I completely agree, Veneta is my all time favourite Bird Song, and the China Rider is the China Rider which actually made me start to appreciate that combo! Going to give 4/21 another listen now, haven't listened to that night since the E72 box set came out :D Keep on truckin' bro!

The fact that so many books still name the Beatles as “the greatest or most significant or most influential” rock band ever only tells you how far rock music still is from becoming a serious art. Jazz critics have long recognized that the greatest jazz musicians of all times are Duke Ellington and John Coltrane, who were not the most famous or richest or best sellers of their times, let alone of all times. Classical critics rank the highly controversial Beethoven over classical musicians who were highly popular in courts around Europe. Rock critics are still blinded by commercial success. The Beatles sold more than anyone else (not true, by the way), therefore they must have been the greatest. Jazz critics grow up listening to a lot of jazz music of the past, classical critics grow up listening to a lot of classical music of the past. Rock critics are often totally ignorant of the rock music of the past, they barely know the best sellers.

Pretty based library you have. You should try out Ariel Pink. Four Shadows would be a good start to start off.

Hello Steven and thanks for your visit to the pines of New Jersey. Great library with lots of the music from my 20's. The Doors were one my favorites even though the only chance I ever had to see them was in May 1970 and Mr Morrison showed up drunk. Have a good Sunday. Ray
