Ciao carissima! Come stai?

A friend of mine dragged me along to an Iron Maiden cover band show last weekend. One of the guitarists were wearing a t-shirt with art looking like your pfp. :D Made me think of Don Italia!

Ahaha thanks for having thinked at my propic :D I hope you enjoyed the show, i'm not a big fan of cover bands, i always prefer to see original bands, but, anyway, still better than listening bad music. Also, cover bands sometimes performs songs that the original band play a few or literally never in their career :)

Hey that's great, hanging out with friends, and getting a cover band of one of your favourite band is great, don't get me wrong. The only problem for me is that in the clubs, a lot of owners prefers to give too much space to them and almost none to local bands... that's another way, IMHO, that live music and new bands are struggling a lot, much more hurting than Spotify and digital platforms ;)

I don't quite agree with that. Cover bands have always been around as "competition". Streaming and lack of quality music has hurt new bands. Have a look at metal bands, there has not been a new wave of genre since the early 2000s that went "mainstream" in metal. A vast majority are just doing pale imitations of their idols. Take 80s metal, for example. Instead of taking that and making something of their own, it's just 1000% worship of something that's already been done and perfected by better musicians. And yet, those old bands still kick the young bands butts because they write better songs. Some bands may have a riff, but they can't write hooks or choruses.

I quite agree with that point, it's true that historic bands will probably never be beaten, but for me it's ok if someone wants to someway try to follow their roots!

Hi dude, i'm quite fine, it's all going quite good apart from the weather which seems to be winter! I was hoping to be already in the summer haha! Anyway i'm exactly a month away from seeing finally AC/DC, sadly i couldn't go to see Judas Priest, but for i was extremely lucky to get tickets in the front rows, almost no one had that luck and i'm not lucky at all, so it was a nice exception! Also i plan to see John Fogerty, maybe if i find good placed tickets Eric Clapton, and i wait for the first days of december, i hope that i could go to see Anthrax, Kreator and Testament!

Dude, I wish I was in your place, here it's not even summer and it's already hot haha. So cool that you will se AC/DC, if they come to Mexico I'll do my best to go see them. I'm sorry that you couldn't see Judas Priest, it would have been your first time? I saw them twice and both were epic. I have also seen Anthrax, and Kreator and Testament on a tour together and it was amazing. I'm gonna se Toto next month, they're doing a free show so I 'm gonna take the chance. Also I' m seeing Metallica in september! I'm so excited, I have never seen them and they are one of my favourite bands, I have to take the chance before it's too late. :( Which has been the best concert you'ever been to?

Hey even if i love Tuscany, Mexico is way cool, i would like to visit someday, despite the weather ahah! About AC/DC, if have read it correctly, they only have posted dates in Europe, but i'm quite sure they will come to both northern, central and southern Amerca maybe later! About Priest, yes, there's always something in the middle! About the tour of the thrash metal bands, i think this is the same tour that will arrive in Italy in december! Toto are great, they are also near to me with Marcus Miller... it's hard to have good tickets BTW. Nice they are doing a free show! I saw Metallica in 2019 in Milan, it was a damned heavy rain day (and it was may), i was submerged by mud and all other s**t but they were absouletely worth it! About last question it's hard to say. I guess: Iron Maiden (with also Shinedown, J. Davis and Helloween), Def Leppard with Motley Crue and possibly Kiss or Saxon, i'm not sure about third place :D

Yeah for me the covers nowadays (especially in non metal albums) are really horrendous. One time for instance it was an unusual and cool thing to have albums withouth the name of the artist or the album itself, now it's so common, i really don't like that way!

But that's just stylistic choice. It works for some, but not for all. I am thinking more like Znowhite's cover for "Act of God" for example. :P

It’s so cool Dio got to sing with all different kinds of bands. From all the albums I’ve heard yet I’d say mine are probably Dehumanizer, Holy Diver and Strange Highways in that order. Unfortunately I skipped over a lot of his albums when I was younger and just now beginning to backtrack and rediscover them.

Maybe my favourite overall is Road Racin'... but it's so hard, they made a lot of great songs in many of their eras, even with the lineup constanly changing! I think they are even interesting now that they are become Riot V! About Exodus probably i will say The Toxic Waltz, and i like really much that album, Fabolous Disaster, and also the classic Bonded by Blood and Tempo of the Damned... even their last album wasn't that bad for me :)

All cool here man! Dude, Thats so cool, I also saw Motley Crue and Def Leppard this year and indeed they rocked, I also think that Leppard was a bit better (funny cus I like Crue more) but Crue was pretty kickass too. I saw Guns N Roses in 2019 and it was awesome aswell, of course Axl doesn't have the same range as when he was young, but he sings just fine, the whole band put out a great show. Also, im gonna see Metallica next year! Im really excited cus it's one of the bands I always dreamed to see at least once. I really enjoy concerts, I feel incredibly connected to the music and ambience overall. Which other concerts have you been to?

NightHawk1989
With maximum respect to Crue, Def Leppard really rocked the show, they're indeed much more skilled musicians, one can't deny that, and they don't need playback or other things... anyway Motley kicked a** with a spectacular show, i honestly tought it could have been much worse, but they were like fire, and John 5 was also perfect, even if i feel sorry for the poor Mick Mars. I'm sure Guns will put a great show, and i'm quite confident about Axl, he's too much criticized IMHO. They also play almost 30 songs, not everyone does that! I saw Metallica in 2019 (under heavy rain, it was still great) and they rocked!! I appreciate that Metallica also doesn't have fixed setlist, they can literally bring to you from outta nowhere a song that they never played in years! Great fun! About other concerts, the best for me was Iron Maiden (with Helloween and others), Saxon and Kiss overall... but i still got so many bands to recovered and too much band/artist that i can't see anymore :(

bro you gotta come to understand and accept that music taste is subjective and not everybody is gonna have the same opinion as you on who is 'bigger' or 'better' and the amount of hate and anger you spread on the dio page against dutch dio who happens to make music I really fucking like is insane, you even commented under almost every single picture that was uploaded of him, downvoted all the way to the bottom anyway. I have nothing against rock dio and I didn't mean to disrespect him with this comment nor did I really anyway, whereas you directly insulted dutch dio a crazy amount. If you want other people to respect your dio then respect their dio too and make some friends or some shit instead of spreading pointless hate on the internet.

You could listen to whatever you want, we can discuss of anything, but don't pretend to tell me what to do, downvoting also is not a crime, it's fully permitted, i haven't removed the photos or what and i think i just leave one or two comments, not so much as you said!

I think that old school heavy metal might be the best genre of music hehe. So you like nwobhm stuff besides Maiden?

I think you're right! I love NWOBHM, it contains so much famous and lesser known bands, and lot of them with very different music styles... Def Leppard, Saxon (saw them live), Motorhead, Tank, Tygers of Pan Tang, Diamond Head, Raven, Demon, Venom, Tokyo Blade, Savage, Fastway, Witchfinder General... just to say some bands!! They are all fantastic!

I Metallica vanno sempre bene, in baffo a chi li critica!

I’m in… Kentucky which isn’t really a hotspot for any concerts except in Louisville which is a just a huge city like 2 hours away. Other than that you pretty much just have to get lucky with other smaller venues. Judas Priest actually was at this nice small arena about 45 minutes from my house last year but I couldn’t make it. That’s been the only place I can think of that has concerts I can get to with ease. If I lived just a few more hours north then I’d be right in the heart of where Midwest tour stops happen since almost every artist that goes on an American tour will stop somewhere up there. Ohio, Illinois, Michigan etc.

Hey dude such a shame, but as europeans we think only of benefits and we may not think that US states are so big! Such a shame, hope you can recover as many artist as possible! I also need to see Judas Priest, they were in Florence in 2018, but i went to see Iron Maiden the day before, and i was waiting for Ozzy Osbourne in concert with them in Boulogne, but it was rescheduled a lot of times, since total cancellation due to Ozzy's health :(

Yes, I’m hoping for some better chances to go see some concerts in the next few years. Especially for those older artists while they’re still out there and touring. Good talk but it’s time for me to get some sleep.
