Bruh, I planned so far in advance for Poetic Justice to be my first scrobble on 2025 and then Last.fm just like... didn't scrobble it.

What do you think of Morgan Wallen's new releases on YouTube (Abbey Road Sessons)? "Lies Lies Lies" and the "Graveyard Whistling" cover ... wow.

Sounds good. He just put them up a couple days ago. Four of them are acoustic versions of songs on "One Thing At A Time" (including Thinkin Bout Me), but those are two new tracks (even though "Graveyard Whistling" is a cover of a band called Nothing But Thieves).

What do you think of Jelly Roll so far? I see you've scrobbled a few tracks, including a couple off his new album. He broke the all-time attendance record last summer for Fremont Street concerts. I love his duet with Brantley Gilbert -- "Son Of The Dirty South". I'm seeing BG open for Nickelback next month, and with Jelly Roll and his wife having a house in Vegas, maybe he'll make an appearance again.

Honestly have not really been impressed by him. I guess I can respect people wanting country to go in this grimey rougher direction, but his music just comes out ugly to me. And I don't mind some religious themes, but so far the lyrics haven't struck a positive chord with me either. I guess "Save Me" is the best of the three songs of his that have so far hit. But yeah I'd put him near the bottom of the list of new country singers to come out the last few years.

He's done every genre, and on one hand that's cool for some artists, but I like it moreso when it's just mixed into their music, like Morgan Wallen being a "country" artist, even though many of his songs have R&B or hip-hop elements in them too. Jelly started out in hip-hop, and had #1 songs on the country AND rock charts last year. I liked "Dead Man Walking" the best last year. He is much better live; I don't think I've played any of his albums all the way through.

That one exceeded my expectations. I see you scrobbling a little more of a few songs. I’ve been going back through his hip hop tracks, especially after watching his 10-minute freestyle video on YouTube from back in 2009. I like “Smoking Section” and “Hate Goes On”.

Luke Combs…. Idk who Karol G is but sounds interesting. Are you excited for for Dolly Parton or Kylie Minogue or anything else I’m missing? Some metal bands I like released new albums this year but they were boring.

In 2016, Drake songs constituted a record 6% of the music industry according to Billboard. But i think Wallen could beat that this year. And what's crazy is that you can no longer blame the album length on the success he's having, because all those streams are coming from about 12 songs.

It didn't really stand out to me, tbh. As opposed to Broadway Girls which I immediately loved. But I enjoyed hearing you describe what you liked about it.

How about the rest of the album? I started listening to Lil' Durk more after Broadway Girls, as well as seeing interviews he's done; same thing with Kevin Gates.

Can you see this image (from Twitter)? It is the Top 50 albums from 2021, and it shows albums, songs, audio streams, and VIDEO streams. It's very interest, because look at Adele at #6. She actually sold 1,000,000 albums but had very little streaming. Then look at Kid Laroi at #5. ONLY 13,000 albums sold! But almost 2 billion streams. https://pbs.twimg.com/media/FHomgX7UUAENcO2?format=jpg&name=large

Interesting. Yeah, I look at breakdowns like that every week for the Hot 100, so I have an idea of how it works. But I don't look at the ones for BB200 as much. I know enough to know that I don't know much. If you know what I mean, lol.

I spend about 1-2 days a week listening to that weeks charts, then I spend the other days listening to whatever I feel like. So the top charting songs of any given year will have like ~50 plays for a year. And the biggest artists and albums will have a few hundred plays from that. But on most days, when I just listen to whatever I feel like, there's a lot more variety and a lot less repeat songs. So the top songs and artists from those days aren't gonna rack up nearly as many plays.

Kendrick's latest album didn't chart too well. So he's in there primarily from my feel-like-it plays. Most of my top artists and albums of the last 12 months are some combination of both. But my top songs of the last 12 months are mostly just chart plays, cuz otherwise I'm pretty unlikely to play a big hit song all the time, when I'm already constantly hearing it on the charts/irl.

All great choices. Even with all my country music and heavy metal scrobbles, I have 589 Nicki Minaj scrobbles, but it's mainly between 5 songs (80+ each). For me, I will go with Mariah Carey, Susanna Hoffs (The Bangles), Belinda Carlisle, Maria Brinks (In This Moment), and Carrie Underwood.

Lady Gaga just fell out of my all-time Top 50 late last year. More like other artists passed her, instead of her "falling out" of it.

Oh yeah, I remember liking 98 Braves too. I'm not into sports at all, so I guess I'm kinda being taught about it through the song. Tbh, I kinda tuned out during the second half of the album, but something tells me this ain't the last time I'll be hearing those songs this year, lol.
Actions

JustinDTLV
Not... even... CLOSE! I listened to 98 Braves first, cuz I was a huge baseball fan growing up, and I remember those 1990s Braves teams. Morgan Wallen is country music right now, like it or not, to people that love him or hate him. It's basically him and Luke Combs. He's broken so many records with Dangerous, and this one is so eagerly anticipated that it broke the first-day streaming record already. Look at the Top Country Albums chart on Billboard -- the damn thing is still #1 -- 97 WEEKS at #1 for Dangerous (https://www.billboard.com/charts/country-albums/). Even more impressive, it's STILL #6 on the Billboard 200 (https://www.billboard.com/charts/billboard-200/). Just insane. Now next week, One Thing At A Time is guaranteed to be #1 on both, and considering that Dangerous is still #1 after TWO YEARS, we'll be talking about One Thing in 2025. :D

Don't sleep on the second half of the album. To me, I like MORE songs on the second half than the first -- Wine Into Water, Me to Me, Cowgirls, Last Drive Down Main. It's just a long fucking album though, so you kind of have to listen to it in phases, cuz if you're tired by the second half, it's like you don't "hear it" the same way. I just put it on shuffle each day, and after every day, I like a new track "the most". All in all, I love new music and it's fun getting a new obsession for the week or month.

NikkiLee8208
Oh, that's a smart way to do it. For me, I end up basically throwing these songs into huge playlists and then listening to those playlists on shuffle. So I'll hear Wallen's songs alongside a bunch of other songs from any other genre I might feel like. So yeah, I'll definitely come back to them, and I'll keep an ear out for those particular tracks.

Exactly but all those plays add up when you do fm bot on discord. 30 plays minimum on an artist is a crown if you have the most plays on them in a server and those are what I want.

Same with me. I've been on LastFM forever, and I'm grateful it still exists, so it's the least I can do to support it. It's been part of my music listening for so long that I don't know what I'd do without it. Plus, you can edit scrobbles (and remove those stupid "remaster" tags or incorrect artist names) and get more in-depth stats. For $3(?) per month, it's worth it.
