Cheers mate! Same to you! I see you've been at it since 2009, not bad, not bad at all. I hope all of us old last.fm faithfuls will end up in the same retirement village, so we can keep obsessing over listening stats together. :D

Heck yeah. I remember following you back in the day. Glad to see you're still at it too. You're one of the profiles that made me check out Aesop Rock. Also, that sounds sick!

Yeah, that's a shot from Oldboy, but with Park Jihyo of TWICE photoshopped into Choi Min-sik's place. ;D

Since discovering him in 2006 he has been like the sun of my musical solar system, as I like to say. Very vital, very central, very essential and magically connecting to everything somehow. Of course it takes over a 1000 scrobbles to listen to all of his stuff once already, so to get familiar with it.. many more. :D And of course he never really slows down with new music either..

Funnily enough, it took me some time to get into Zorn. A friend of mine showed me Naked City around maybe 2008 but Zorn didn't click for me until 2010. And there's just so much stuff. Just ordered his Bagatelles as well, looking forward to getting those, and should order that piano étude CD.

The Bagatelles set is pretty cool. The Ikue Mori and Mary Halvorson CDs would be my favourites out of the 4. I have to listen to the piano étude one more. Pleasant, but has not registered as more so far. John does not make it easy to find time to revisit his works.. :D And fair enough not getting into him on first listen. I remember back in 2006 that Naked City was cool right away, the self-titled album and Moonchild would have been the first things of his I heard. And probably Elegy (Mike Patton was my entry point to the Zornverse). I do remember not liking Moonchild much at all - that changed with Astronome and when Six Litanies for Heliogabalus came out I was already a year down the abyss and damned/blessed forever. :D

So what's our lord and saviour's best works? I'm lost in the sight of such a large body of work.

Electric Masada - At the Mountains of Madness Of course the whole Naked City discography is worth anyone's time. Radio would be my favourite most of the time. Painkiller's Execution Ground is fantastic. 2012's The Concealed is one of my most played Zorn albums, just a very pleasant and enjoyable listening with a few mystical edges and amazing playing all around. IAO is a dear favourite too and certainly a compelling and scary listen during the nighttime. Among the Filmworks, check out all of them, but Invitation to a Suicide first. Psychomagia is fantastic if you want to delve into Zorn's heavier stuff, but not go super-heavy yet. Six Litanies for Heliogabalus is an immense work that deserves pointing out.

Myth And Mythopoeia contains the soprano tour de force of Pandora's Box and probably my favourite of Zorn's contemporary classical pieces, Missa Sine Voces. If you have some family around, The Gift and O'o tend to do the trick, the latter having some great Blues playing from Marc Ribot. Among the Book of Angels Vol 3, Malphas and Vol 10 Lucifer would be my favourites. And I think that's already more than enough bullet points for you to check out. If any of these albums is really enjoyable for you, let me know. I'll try to point you to similar ones. Cheers!

Thanks a lot. Lots of stuff to check here. I've only listened to some Electric Masada, O'o (that's the face of a bird right?) and Transmigration of the Magus which I liked a lot. Marc Ribot is one hell of a guitarist. Also, can't get enough of Jorn's faces when he's directing. On another note, what did you think of Alphaville?

If you liked O'o check out The Dreamers, Book of Angels Vol 14 (which is played by the same ensemble) and Pellucidar: A Dreamers Fantabula, the final Dreamers album. Regarding Transmigration of the Magus - The Testament of Solomon satisfies a similar mystical, cerebral energy for me. Alphaville was fantastic I thought, but I think I listened to the pre-release singles too much, because I ended up enjoying Vile Luxury more as a complete album to listen to in one go. I will have to get back into both again this year though and assess again. And then re-assess. :D

Just goes to show how much different music is out there and how many paths one can explore. Despite the state of the world, one thing that keeps being exciting and keeping me sane is music!

Hi there and thanks! I've been around this place for a long time now and I've always made sure I was able to scrobble from any new device I got in the last 14 years, which results in these rather comprehensive stats! I see your favourite track at the moment is Twilight of the Thunder God, excellent choice. I saw Amon live in 2004 in Cologne, gosh, that feels like several lifetimes away. :D Cheers!

Boris ended up as my top artist for the same reason. :) Have you ever seen Bohren live? One of my biggest regrets is that I got right into them after moving abroad from Berlin in 2013, and since then there hasn't been an opportunity. :((

Got into Bohren back in 2006 when I started this last.fm profile. That Summer every night ended with Sunset Mission. Those were the days! Got to see them live twice. In 2014 and 2019, Philharmonie Köln and in a church in Bochum. Both really nice concerts - crossing my fingers you get a chance soon! :)

First I lived in Scandinavia for 3 years and now in Scotland for the last 4 years. Concert scene is actually pretty good here (Glasgow especially), but certain acts just don't really come up here.

Ha, I'm in New Zealand since last May, so regarding certain acts not really coming (down) here, TELL ME ABOUT IT! :D

Oof yeah, my brother lived there for a while too. Well, on the upside, I assume there are at least local gigs happening right now, since unlike us you're not in lockdown right now. I haven't been to any indoors event since March. :|

Dude, I don't know if this is correct but, where did you get The Last Judgment by Zorn? I mean, do you have a link to download it or something? I'm just wondering, and if you have one would you pass me the link?

Hey, saw your posts on many John Zorn songs pages, his group, and stuff. I bet you know a lot about his discography. I've listened to The Satyr's Play and there seems to be timpani on some part(s). My dad has asked me a bunch of times if I knew any kind of solo timpani composition, not just the timpani parts in any composition. I mean, integral music only made of timpani. Has John Zorn ever done that, by any chance? Or any composer you know? Meh, doesn't hurts to ask, I think (: Great stuff here, btw! (sorry about the bad english)
