Sorry it's taking me ages, as always, to write a proper reply to your PM (everything just takes me forever). Will do soon, and just checking in, in the meantime :)

New Cate le Bon album coming the same month as Ani memoir, it's keeping me going. https://www.musicglue.com/cate-le-bon-music

Aw no, I've definitely been there. Happened with the Julia Holter gig I was meant to go to in December, it sucks.

Happy Festive Things and Wishes and Whatnot, if you celebrate ❤️ And Ani's memoir has been pre-ordered!

Also, saw Tash Sultana the other week, I'd never heard of her before but it was AMAZING. I've never seen just one artist on stage alone putting out this enormous wall of sound and playing every instrument under the sun. Even what I'm pretty sure was a pan flute solo. And some kind of electric ukelele. And trumpet. It was nuts.

And in return I highly HIGHLY recommend the new Anna Calvi album, and Anna Calvi in general if you haven't given her a listen already.

Ah I love her, going to see her tomorrow! I had no idea she was playing nearby, just found out yesterday, so happy.

So many favourite artists have released stuff this year, it's insane. The Marissa Nadler album is beautiful, but I don't even have time to revisit it properly yet with upcoming Anna Calvi gig and Cat Power and Kristin Hersh albums on the SAME DAY.

Sorry it's taken me AGES to get back to you on this, I've started teaching full time and basically dropped the ball with every other thing for the last month or so. The new Blood Orange album is good! It was on my to listen list but you pushed it up to the top. :) Haven't been in quite the right headspace for it but I think when I am I'll love it.

Re: 2017 (I was under the impression this was still obscure but looking for the youtube link shows me apparently word got out... Well. Good for her, but CAUTION: As usual, don't read the comments) https://youtu.be/iAgiK07Py9M

Actually thinking about it you probably do already know her, trying to think of how I came across her and then I remembered of course, she's on/was on Righteous Babe Records! :) Think she even toured with Ani back in the day...

Oh yeah and they also have Bon Iver in common who is on a bunch of her songs and covered this lovely one https://youtu.be/cmwtQXRRiWg

I adore a vast vast majority of Ani's output, from very beginning to latest, but man, something about Allergic to Water really rubbed me up the wrong way for some reason (and I try to be very sparing with criticism, I don't normally have negative comments to make). BUT, that said, I haven't listened to it for ages and I'm gonna pop it back on my phone and give it another listen with fresh ears from your inspiration! Maybe saving it for a rainy day, I'm sure in the UK I won't be saving it too long :P

I really love it, tbh. It just has this really laidback feel to it. It definitely feels like she wrote at least half of the songs on a rainy day. It's her most laidback and down to earth release, I think. It's sort of in the same category as Reprieve, but a lot less political and more bittersweet and reflective? :)

By the way for something totally under the radar which nobody else anywhere seems to appreciate, give Laura Love's Pangaea a spin

Given the new Laura Marling a listen? I've only ever listened to a few of her songs casually, but I'm surprised by how much I'm enjoying this one. Now I need to go back through her discography and see what I've missed out on :)

I'm slowly making my way through her discography, actually! I'm probably going to listen to some more tonight, though. I prefer her more recent stuff over her first two albums so far. Maybe it's because it feels like she came more into her own later on. Her first two album sound a bit too Mumford-y for my own personal taste. :P

Especially someone who appreciates Ani! My last.fm doesn't quite convey how much I've listened to her because I basically had pretty much every song of hers memorised by the time I joined here... If my account went back longer she may well be my #1 in scrobbles.

How can I not? I think your Cocteau love on top of everything else pushes our musical compatibility basically off the charts :D I can't believe you've only been scrobbling since October, there's already so much amazing stuff in your library!
