Yeah, I'm definitely all over the map when it comes to what I listen to. I started recording in the mid 90s so my influences for TCoB would be stuff like My Bloody Valentine, Windy & Carl, Bowery Electric, The Edge from U2, Flying Saucer Attack, Spacemen 3, Cocteau Twins, Low, early Reggae Dub. I never knew there was "Ambient" or "Drone" before I started recording so I thought I was making up some kind of new style of music? I started playing guitar in the early 80s so I played mostly Metal and Hardcore until MBV released "Loveless" and that totally blew my mind. That's the short answer...

A lot of those old "coon songs" from the days of cylinder records are quite catchy and I like the melody of "Turkey in the Straw". An underrated slice of authentic Americana. I think you'll find much more offensive stuff in my library if you go poking about.

I'm a big fan of shoegaze and dream pop. I'd have more scrobbles but my scrobbler broke and I've been too lazy to do anything about it, unfortunately

likewise, my friend. shit's sickening dude. Stars of the Lid. I almost deleted them from my computer but then the two "Music For Twin Peaks" tracks changed my mind. good stuff; i just don't know when an appropriate time to listen to them is besides.. well, falling asleep or a THC-influenced zone out session

I hadn't listened to it yet, but if you think that highly of it, I'll check it out tonight. Recently, I've been getting into stoner doom/metal, psychedelic and harsh noise/power electronics a lot.

Hell yeah, I can't believe I never got into Blue Cheer before! People go on and on about early Pentagram, but Blue Cheer is where its at, heavy gold! They got a heroic dose of that heavy madness that seems to only come from the Bay Area.

I was thinking I would recommend to you the double-disc album "Ayahuasca' by Pelt. It is my favorite drone album.

Hey man thanks! You seem to have a very interesting library here as well. Dolorian is a very special band for me. They blend in everything from dark/ritual/ambient/black/doom in such a perfect way, which helps to create a powerful atmosphere. They definitely have their own unique sound that makes them stand out among other metal bands. In the Locus of Bone is a top favorite of mines, very ominous and sinister song. I'm one of those who doesn't cares or really pay much attention to the lyrics, but that's unless they're well written and catch my attention. It depends. There's some songs and artists where I pay more attention to the lyrics, and others where I pay more attention to the music, you know. But Dolorian is like you mentioned, real poetry :)

I have the same problem, crusty kids and kvltists rip on me for being such a sensitive hippie, listening to jerry garcia and janis joplin and bob dylan, and then my hippie friends are all like "What's with this abrasive screamy music? baaad viiiibes man." lol. Stoner doomsters and the Cascadian black metal breed seem to have the accepting balance, though. That's why I'm moving to Washington, where you can listen to heavy music and still hug trees without breaking your continuity :P I like Stars of the Lid, very dreamy. The bassist of ISIS put out an impressive attempt at drone under the moniker Crone that reminds me of that a little with a twist.

yeah man Barn Owl is special stuff. Don't miss the album they did with The Infinite Strings Ensemble called The Headlands. Your taste is really diverse, I bet you know some rare hidden gems most people don't.

That's cool!!! I'm not 100% sure what songs they played when I saw them, because it was so fucking loud. It was in this tiny bar in San Francisco. They were playing through full stacks and the room was so small that it just sounded like a wall of noise. I actually left after their set (they were really the only reason I went to the show anyway) because I forgot my earplugs and even though I'm "old", I'm still young enough that I don't want to loose my hearing quite yet. ;)

...also on that note, I think The Gates of Slumber and Stereolab were the two loudest shows I've ever been to.

It was definitely a rare treat and I consider myself blessed to have witnessed it. Sometimes I think "Damn, I missed this show and that show...." but I think I've seen enough once in a lifetime shows that I should consider myself lucky. Is there a particular show you've seen that you would consider monumental or significant?

I'm really impressed with the new album - I want to say that it's their best record yet, but I remember thinking that almost every time they do a record. Aealo was probably the only drop in quality they've had, and it wasn't like it was crap, just too much filler. I don't know much about Sakis as a person, but from the few interviews I've seen or read he does seem down to earth and easy going. Completely unlike, say, most Norwegian black metal bands, who seem difficult to be around :) I'm not one for meeting or talking to the bands I enjoy, but I imagine I could have an interesting discussion with him about something other than his band.

Ha, I get that question a lot. I guess I need music that has some kind of raw feeling in it - sometimes it should be pitch black anger, other times, something a lot softer. It all flows into the same place though.

Thanks for hitting my up, man. Much appreciated. Yeah, I dig Zoroaster, bro. I haven't had the opportunity to check 'em up out live yet. Do you live in Atlanta? You into Death of Kings or Order of the Owl?

At that time (when discovering Atooishinjuu and TAP) i really took an interest into the genre, but recently i find myself more drawn towards the post-rock sound. Sadly, my busy schedule keeps me away from discovering new music. If you ever find something worth mentioning please share, i'll very much appreciated.

I saw your post in the Nadja shoutbox and was thinking the same thing. I always thought it was because Nadja has a million albums and TAP has around like...4 or 5.
