Hello fellow Super. It seems we have a 99% music compatibility. Little Motel is my favorite of Modest Mouse. Teeth Like Gods Shoeshine is right behind it. Wishing you well!

hey likewise! i just saw joie de vivre live which was a total bucket list band, check out their album "The North End" if you are unfamiliar - peak Midwest emo and nice and sad. Also check out the track "The Past is a Grotesque Animal" By Of Montreal, makes me feel weird and happy and sad. Send recs my way if youd like!

OK you popped off with the recs. This of Montreal track was crazy and made me self reflect. Super captivating. You gave me what I was looking for with The North End. Praise Song into We're Equals is something I'll be coming back to for the carthasis they provide. Strictly Ballroom - New Angels is the vibe I've been in search of recently. Feel free to take a listen and send over any reminiscent tracks if you want!

That song rocks! I see you already know Indian Summer, that band came to mind first in terms of similar vibe. I'd check out "In October Of 2019...." and then the transition into > "illinois//alberta" by Your Arms are My Cacoon. A bit more twinkly and modern sounding but I really love that whole EP.

That's crazy, I had "In October Of 2019..." in my liked songs from a couple years ago but never listened to the full EP. I'll have to dive into it!

thoughts on the new modest mouse album? really enjoyed it, best record they've put out since the moon and antartica imo. really enjoy the electronic route they went on it for a few songs.

So I'm a modest mouse purest, to a fault lol. Like I'll love basically anything Isaac touches. But i was genuinely very pleasantly surprised with how cohesive the album was. The singles fit in well imo. We're lucky and back to the middle were the obvious highlights for me as an old school modest mouse lover, but all the other tracks were super unique from a modest mouse perspective, which is great. Gotta listen a few more times for sure. In terms of better than good news, we were dead, or strangers?? I don't know. Imo maybe the 2nd best out of those. I've never been a huge WWD guy, and strangers is what it is. Happy listening, go mouse!

upon relistening to STO, i definetely agree that TGC might not be the best since tm&a, and might not even be better than the other albums but yeah, its really unique and thats what i mostly adore about. the songs sound like no others from previous mm albums, which is crazy considering the amount of material they have floating around. btw, whats your pfp from? i swear ive seen that video i just cant remember what it is

Of course... lemme see what I can do! Of Montreal - Lysergic Bliss. I see you have listened to them a tiny bit, but recently I have been loving this song and album. Clarence Clarity - Adam & The Evil*. One of my favorite songs from last year. Chinese Football - Chinese Football. Great midwest-emo band from China, very calming. Yung Lean - Stranger. Kind of a guilty pleasure album for me, but who knows you might like it lol. Portishead - Dummy. Iconic band and album. Let me know what you think, and give me some rec's in return if you don't mind!

One week later and all i can say is wow. Just Got Back from the Discomfort is one hell of a hidden gem. So unique, emotional, and raw. The only thing I found odd was some of the transitions between songs. Maybe it's just Spotify fuckery. Did not detract one bit from the album though. Thanks for introducing me to a great band.

Dude, they're such an amazing band that really takes some time to digest. really glad you like it! I reccomend reading along with the lyrics. There is a Dropbox link with their discography floating around that may fix those issues you have, I can try and find it for ya if you want

Yeah I can definitely feel the MF DOOM influences at play here. I always found his lyricism to be top notch and am super stoked to listen to whatever he puts out next.

it was just reaaaally different, to the point where it almost didn't sound like them. that's why i thought it was so weird, but i do like it. i'm also really sad eric judy isn't playing with them anymore :(

I know right? I thought that strangers to ourselves was gonna kinda be like we were dead, but i'm glad it wasn't. I mean, it's not like the stuff they used to make, but I still thought it was pretty great. I've had pups to dust stuck in my head now for days and ugh i love it so much

Yeah I knew it was a residential area, but it just makes me curious as to why they chose that picture. Maybe they just thought it looked cool, and I agree haha.

Damn, that's pretty interesting. I'm stoked to hear more about the background to this album, the cover art especially. My guess would be a mix of what you said, human destruction, and urban sprawl. Overall I'm getting a lot of LCW vibes.

Yeah I mean, for me personally, I just didn't care for the sea theme, as it just felt way too gimmicky and forced. Plus, after 8 years, it would be a HUGE disappointment if all they could come up with is another goofy, over-produced album attempting to sound "fresh". But knowing Isaac, I doubt this will be the case since all of the new material is so dope, and every MM album has been drastically different from the next.

Oh nice. I'm definitely hyped for this album man, the singles and live material so far have been very promising, and there's this unique atmosphere that lingers on each track, but I can't put my finger on what it is exactly. Anyways, I just hope that my expectations aren't too high, and we don't get another We Were Dead after all this time haha.

AntasTheGreat
Haha of course man! I think the singles so far are pretty promising, with The Best Room being my favorite out of the three so far. Though, I hope they include that one song they featured in the tour of Isaac's house on the album, I think it's titled Give It Enough or somethin. It sounds like if Lonesome Crowded West and Moon & Antarctica had a baby lol.

I don't see why you wouldn't, they're a bit of an odd one. I'd say start with ...Is a Real Boy but make sure you give them a proper good listen to. All their albums are different to one another so it might take some time to find what you dig most. Going from your charts I'd say you'll probably like them. Let me know what you think homie

if you wanna check out a nice folk punk band id look at Days n Daze on Bandcamp. Or if you want to maybe hear a nice indie rock band check out Hollerado. If you listen to Days n Daze check out the album Here Goes Nothing or Rogue Taxidermy. Listen to White Paint if you check out Hollerado

Not much dude. Just started taking jazz guitar lessons recently, and that's going pretty well. That's about it though. How bout you? Also, I know you're into the Dead, so I gotta ask, u seeing Phish this summer? Not sure if you're into them, but I know the two cultures and fan bases cross over.

Yes, I have seen Mount Eerie live. Last year. The reason I was looking forward to it is because it was the smallest, most intimate and surreal concert I've ever been to. Also, because I interviewed Phil via email a couple months ago and wanted to follow up on some things in person with him.

Guided By Voices and the Mountain Goats were great! Unfortunately the Mount Eerie show was cancelled. I was looking forward to that one the most. But GBV played a lot of songs from Bee Thousand including Goldheart Mountaintop Queen Directory and Smothered in Hugs!

I might give AJJ another shot one day. I hope I didn't come off as rude earlier. You have great taste! Especially for someone so young. Let me know what you think of the Mountain Goats.
Actions
-
naotas_forehead
The Mountain Goats' early work can sound a lot like GBV at times, but honestly, Andrew Jackson Jihad is probably the most similar sounding. The Mountain Goats are like a much deeper, more mature Andrew Jackson Jihad. (Truth be told, from what I've heard of AJJ, I don't like them. They sound like a hyperactive ripoff of tMG, with all the subtlety and greatness sucked out.) tMG can also sound like Neutral Milk Hotel, except while Jeff's lyrics are foggy and dreamlike, John's are highly concrete and literary.

naotas_forehead
I've never seen such a short and bipolar "seen live" list. Train and Green Day are among the worst bands ever. And then you have Built to Spill and Neutral Milk Hotel, two of the greatest bands ever. What is this I'm so confused

-
naotas_forehead
The Mountain Goats are fantastic! Of course. Hard to recommend a particular starting album. Maybe listen to We Shall All Be Healed and The Coroner's Gambit. But it's all good. Extremely prolific and consistent, every song has insanely good lyrics and he has like a million songs.
