Yeah, bpc has quite pure and clean sound (similar to acid trance). There's a lot of generecic stuff in the genre but you have to dig through it to find the good stuff, just like anywhere else. Try Jaïa - Blue Energy/Synergy album if you like bpc. http://www.last.fm/music/Ja%C3%AFa

Another thing to keep in mind is the changing vocals. Mikael Akerfeldt doesn't sound the same in any two albums unless he's singing clean. So if you find yourself not really liking the vocals, maybe sample some other albums. I didn't like the vocals at first, but over time I became used to them and started to love them eventually.

Sorry for not replying sooner; I'm reliant on email notifications and I didn't seem to get one after your second post. =( Well, the first two Opeth albums (Orchid, Morningrise) have black metal-esque vocals and sound production, and are very different from later Opeth. So you may want to start there if you like black metal in general (or just skip to the song Black Rose Immortal). Of later Opeth, the album Still Life stands out I think, very progressive, dynamic and heavy, but it took me a long while to really start liking and appreciating it. Blackwater Park is very heavy and a common favourite. Damnation is very different to the other albums and isn't metal, more like prog rock; it has a sleek and mysterious feel to it which is unique and makes it my favourite Opeth album. Ghost Reveries is probably the most accessible album for most metal listeners - not that it's mainstream, but rather it has plenty of riffs that are plain hard to dislike.

I noticed you checked out Intronaut's Valley of Smoke. The Null EP and Prehistoricisms LP are better works for capturing their musicianship, imo.

Thank you! Darkspace are now in my library, I shall check them out as soon as possible :) let me contribute to yours with one of the bands I'm addicted to lately: http://www.last.fm/music/Istapp they play melodic black metal with folk touches, somewhat similar to (and yet entirely unlike) Iskald. You may also want to check out http://www.last.fm/music/Drudkh (atmospheric black), http://www.last.fm/music/Demonaz (also somewhat atmospheric) and http://www.last.fm/music/Moonsorrow (pagan/black). I welcome any other suggestions you may have :)

Yes, but usually the cults seem to stay at one place and don't become an internet-wide phenomenon.

I randomly stumbled onto your profile and noticed Biosphere and Robert Rich and was wondering if you had any personal recommendations for some dark ambient music. Also noticed the metal and wondered if you know of any really heavy and dark, possibly black or death band that DONT have vocals. Hope to hear back from you.

I listened this time with headphones, not sure if it made a difference, but I thought the album was good and I see what you meant with the EW example. The first track was epic, could listen to it over and over, the others are better in a mood(like Cult of Luna's Salvation which I recommend).

Thank you. Yeah I always had the interest in a wide variety of music genres, including avant-garde and other genre defying stuff... so I thought: Why not make my own experiments with a bit of all these influences? And that how the Undogmatic project was born. I think the name suits it pretty well, since there's really no rigid dogma or standard. Haha. Cheers!

I just finished it. It didn't leave a strong impression, but I'll listen to more of it in time.
