It was a great gig. It's a shame you couldn't be there or that it couldn't have been replicated closer to you. At the same time though it wasn't perfect. Much of the pre-recorded between songs narration/dialogue was out of sync with the video clips by between 5-10 seconds meaning the lip-synching was unbelievably far out. Also the mix wasn't perfect (Anneke was almost completely mixed out on some songs), but the energy was fantastic, there was some nice humour and I guess the show aspect of the performance is never to be repeated. At least there will be a DVD though, I hear. Maybe they'll be able to mix Anneke back in by the time that comes out. Can't see them completely fixing Vai's pre-recorded lip-synching completely though.

Haha, I'm rarely around here these days either, hence it took me nearly 2 months to reply to you. I've been listening to Devin for a long time, but he's spread across three tags which stopped him showing so highly on my charts for a while. Even after my 2010 reset of stats the division across 'band', 'project' and just his own name minimised the effect for a while! Was lucky enough to go to the London show in October with the circus performers etc and pretty much exclusively listened to Devin for about 2 months to get me in the mood in the run up. Most of my listening is in the car these days on the daily commute so hardly anything gets scrobbled these days, if it did I'd probably be close to 4 figures for Devin listens since my reset.

Well, first of all don't misunderstand me, I don't actively dislike the program and I'm very grateful that you took the time to recommend something to me. What I do actively dislike are those death growls on the majority of their work, I actually find growls physically painful to listen to. ...Approx 00:15 into the instrumental is a nice bit where the intensity rises dramatically and somewhat unpredictably, otherwise it pretty much sounds like an excerpt from any random DragonForce song, only more repetitive. I don't want to be overly rude, but speed alone doesn't really impress me anymore and aside from the couple of bars immediately following 00:15 the composition doesn't do much for me. Sorry. By all means carry on enjoying it yourself and please do keep recommending things to me, but even now I can't really rouse much interest for Dethklok.

Hey! I thought you'd disappeared for good! You've probably noticed I'm not really doing SotD journals anymore. sablespecter, who was doing them first, has been really unreliable in doing his over the last 11-12 months which resulted in some loss of motivation on my part. One of the reasons I started it was to see if I could do it daily, if I had enough music knowledge to do that, and I just about managed it so I'd proved to myself I could do it if I wanted. At the end of the day it wasn't achieving much though so it petered out. Not sure I'll ever get into Dethklok though, I gave the program a few goes and it never really appealed to me as funny, just odd. I tried listening to a couple of tracks on the album for the sake of being informed, but I just can't force myself to listen for more than about 10-20 seconds of it at a time.

Well, I mainly love Music for Speeding, Loudspeaker and Scenes but recently I've come to appreciate Introduction a lot more. I could really pick any of those four as favourite now. They're all fantastic. Part of why I love Loudspeaker though is for Steve Vai and Billy Sheehan's respective guest appearances. Vai adds a lot to Viper and Sheehan adds a lot to Paradise Express...Petrucci doesn't add much to Black Orchid, but hey you can't win them all. It's so hard to compare an album like Music for Speeding to Introduction though as there's quite a difference in style there.

I cannot believe I've been out almost all day and you posted on my wall just 11 minutes before I came back! Now it looks like I'm on here 24/7, doesn't it? That's so embarrassing. Anyway, Marty's new album is only out in Japan at the moment but most of us seem to be ruthlessly pirating it until (IF) it's released in our local territories. It's an entire album of j-pop covers, but surprisingly good considering that! One of the tracks was also on Loudspeaker, so it's kind of more of the same mostly, but there are a couple of tracks that lend themselves to flashes back to Marty's 90s new-age stuff (mainly the final two tracks). It's actually a very good album because most the tracks end up sounding like Marty wrote them in the first place and it's really interesting to compare them to the originals (even if the originals aren't what most Marty fans would necessarily choose to listen to normally).

It's quite a difficult decision really, isn't it? On the one hand it'd presumably be nice to have them presented as a set, but on the other hand it'd also be nice to hear them around about the same time everyone else hears them to enable discussion. I would very much like this 8 disc set idea but if I purchase some/all of them as they come out I can't see myself buying duplicates next year.

Over here you get a big student loan when you start university, which if you go to uni in the north covers your food and rent. Most people spend the rest on alcohol and going out, but I siphon off enough money for two-three albums a week. I'm going to struggle to pay it back later, but everyone else squanders more on drink than I do on drink and CDs put together. I'm always hunting for the cheapest prices on discs though and unfortunately my favourite label InsideOut Music rarely seem to give away CDs below their 'usual' price (presumably because they're all imported from Germany). Which, I guess, has been a contributing drag factor on the speed of my Devin CD accumulation.

Hey thanks for replying to my comment, even after such a long time. You're right about those albums requiring uninterrupted listens and headphones are indeed required to completely taste the deepness of the composition. French is my primary language, so I'm a little biased. I have no trouble listening to portuguese (try Bacamarte, damn they are good!), italian or even swedish prog rock :)

Please don't think it's incredibly weird of me to message you, but I think we used to talk on deviantart. I just remembered your name, Saronix. You might have known me as either Johnfrusciante or Kamikazestrip. Hey again :D
