Damnnation is my mom's favorite Opeth album, she has no clue their a death metal band. I should show her this as well.

They're both weird dissonant black metal, so it's not surprising that they get compared often. I love both bands though (over 4,000 BaN plays and over 3,000 DsO plays).

didn't quite realize how good this was the first time I heard it. Probably their most consistent work, and maybe their best.

Alright, so this album has grown on me. It's still my least favorite of the 777 series, and this album is not nearly as good a trilogy closer as Paracletus. Hell, DsO's trilogy is still way better than BAN's, even though I am of the heretic position who calls The Desanctification my favorite of their discography.

Kind of an unfair comparison when DsO’s trilogy was the main thing they had released at the point this shout was made, while BaN had put out lots of albums. BaU doesn’t reach DsO’s heights but they make up for it with a larger catalogue of good music. This is my favorite album from them btw.

Gorgeous piece, though deep black metal will surely complain about clean vocals and how bright this album sounds in general.
