Mildly pissed off that there are like single digits worth of bands that play Grind in the vein of Discordance Axis, and like half of them are just ex-Discordance Axis members.

I'm considering it when I have more time after finishing my Masters Degree haha. The main hurdle for me, specifically, is that my idols growing up were Andy Rourke and Geezer Butler so I exclusively play bass. The work around to this is, of course, recording 6 different bass tracks to simulate the six strings of a guitar.

I like this more dissonant sound, that “math” touch. Overall it sounds a bit softer than other grindcore bands, but I don't dislike it. I'll keep listening.

Other than bands that are straight up Discordance-Axis-Worshipping-Themselves like Gridlink and NOKWTDT, I'd suggest Sugar Wounds and Setsuko. I also find that Wormrot and Daxis kinda scratch the same itch, but that might just be me.

Great recs. I knew about a few Chang's side projects so they're out of the picture. Sugar wounds is a stand out. I definitely hear the "Discordance Axis" in the vocals; however, I wish the instrumental bits were a bit heavier.

NGE is extremely great, it's just stereotypical anime fans who I don't care about. Discordance Axis is nice too, but I'd say that DA is overrated and Gridlink is underrated.

"Ikaruga" is the best Discordance Axis song. "Loveless" and "Jigsaw" are great, but "Ikaruga" is the perfect in-between of Gridlink and DA.

The unique riffs by Rob Marton along with the crazy ass blast beats by big man Dave Witte following the anime themed lyrics and the Jon Chang Shriek™ were bound to make something good. The song structure on The Inalienable Dreamless was something new to grindcore at the time which is why its largely praised. Previous Discordance Axis releases were pretty damn good but, while still great, they still sounded like some upcoming fast-paced grindcore band at the time. The Inalienable Dreamless changes this with unique song structure, more clear production, better song writing and straying away from the typical grind mentality. These dudes ended with a massive bang. If anyone at all is ever going to try to get into grindcore, you are committing a sin by not giving this album a listen. Legendary album by a legendary band.
