The greatest album in band's discography and overall one of the greatest records in music history. And the reason for that is easy to find – Don Henley assumed sole leader's role in here. Glenn Frey's romantic songs, Meisner's softies, and a Joe Walsh's weepies are distilled just to one each. Don't get me wrong, they're all great songs, but you can hear the band maturing to new heights of consciousness and lyrical brilliance with Henley taking over the steers. His social critique, always hung perfectly between eye-of-beholder type of commentary and good ole’ rock & roll indulgence finally peaked on this one. The hauntingly artful title track is almost a too obvious example of that... but "The Last Resort" is basically the same story, only on a bigger, historiographical scale. A cold, and a haunting tale. A sleeper off this album, if any song off it could even pass as one... We satisfy our endless needs and justify our bloody deeds...

Amazing album. "Hotel California", "New Kid in Town", "Life in the Fast Lane" and "The Last Resort" are all among the 10 best songs they ever did.

"Everytime I listen to this song it reminds me of the movie: "The Shining" with Jack Nicholson. :P" Hahaha, holy shit. Anyway, this album is perfect. Especially Side A is amazing.

Listened to this album earlier today. This is a true no-skip album. Amazing! The Last Resort may be my favorite song from this album :)
