the best thing from 66" for me. "hungry freaks, daddy", "who are the brain police?", "you didn't try to call me", "trouble every day", "help, i'm a rock" and "the return of the son of monster magnet" are superb

v Agreed. This album stands the test of time like few others manage to do and it's arguably the most ambitious debut of all time. The concept, music and lyrics make this album so ahead of its time and it was a major influence on many musicians, not to mention Paul McCartney himself said that Sgt. Pepper's was the Beatles' "Freak Out!". So, yeah, this is a milestone in experimental music and one of my favorite albums ever, even though I think "We're Only In It For The Money" is their best.

OcellatedGod is completely wrong. It only sounds that way to people who "aren't in on the joke". who shouldn't be listening to zappa anyways. Not only has this album aged great, it was decades ahead of it's time and a huge influence on music in general, even up to the present.

This album got me hooked on Zappa. It still sounds pretty modern for an album released in 1966.

This one really hasn't aged well at all. Objectively this just sounds like a bunch of silly old novelty tunes, especially to someone who's not in on the joke.

By the way, this album has since been reissued on CD as Frank Zappa/The Mothers of Invention [3]

"they were a very big driving force of it", I'd disagree, Zappa seems to me the driving force...

Правильней было бы переименовать в исполнителях этот альбом на The Mothers Of Invention, ведь это же не личный сольник Заппы

The album cover clearly says "The Mothers of Invention" its unfair to the rest of the band

irenicus obviously wouldn't recognise an analogy if it punched him in his stupid face. good job mr.1995 didn't use for example an analogy about hitler or you'd be calling him a nazi. and yes this album should be retagged as the mothers of invention, look at the cover. the zappa family have totally robbed the other members of the band and this is just a final nail in the coffin for people like jimmy carl black, who recently died penniless whilst the zappa family grow fat on their manglings of the back catalogue of a lot of talented musicians in their sinister orwellian attempt to rewrite history.

Without taking anything away from value the original Mothers, it was Frank's band. JCB has spent the rest of his careera milking the Mothers connections, so it's far from the truth that he didn't get anything from that. However, this album is (and should be) signed "The Mothers of Invention".
