The live versions of this on the 92 tour are maybe some of his best vocals, and this as one so astutely put it, time resistant. And for subsequent generations it seems sadly.

Curious how the melody that comes after the chorus is similar to the melody of the outro of 'Breathless' by Camel.

Such an iconic track, and album. Extremely underrated, and filled with emotion. Every track has a story to tell, and that's what makes this album so great. One of my favorite all-time Genesis songs, and one that brings many memories. They'll never be anything like Genesis, or Phil Collins, Truly one of a kind. Been going years listening to this, and it never gets old. Legendary. "No Son Of Mine" A track that is truly iconic, and a great start to the album, and one of Genesis' most legendary hits.

Holy your desperate man, with all these replies. All the best pal. Glad we both enjoy Genesis. Hope you feel better. If were talking maturity, I don't believe you're showing it despite claiming to be, if you think I'm gonna stand here and argue, over ridiculous pressed comments man, I guess you won't get what you want. The fact you like your own comments too, to make it look like your righteous is hilarious as well.

The build up to the chorus is so long, that when it finally hits, the listener is basically like "REJECT ME DADDY!" (or at least that's my experience)

There's a bit of dramatic irony here with the title, since the listener knows that it's going to go poorly for the son before even listening to the track. Beautiful and heartbreaking.

The story in this song doesn't make sense - "...and I never went home again." But then he does.

Probably the most time-resistant song by Genesis for me. When I was really young teenager I had different memories, now I have different, but what is beautiful, it's still so beautiful and breath-taking. Just, God, this is why music has so special place in my heart. And this Collins' drumming...

As great a singer was he was even better on the drums. People say he peaked in 75 but he kept it up even through the 2007 tour which took a plain to see toll on him. I think he’s only as good a singer as he managed to still be into these last tours because of what he was able to express on his preferred canvas.

Dark, moody with sinister overtones an immaculate song from a fabulous group of musicians

I really hate the chorus in this. The verse is fantastic. The disconnect between the joyous, euphoric music of the chorus and the depressing words makes the whole feel disingenuous.

I think that something good can be said about everything that Genesis has written. The least known and apparently lost gem is their first album From Genesis to Revelation. As everyone knows Turn it on Again is from their POP phase. Why even the R&R Hall of Fame eventually had something good to say about them.

Actually, I misspoke a bit...gated snare, in general (like autotune) is a good thing, but too much is too much is too much. Phil just turns the threshold up way to high and then cranks the reverb up because the gate'll close the instant the reverb starts to fade at all...he's a great player though - someone could think he was a drum machine between that impeccable rythm and the highly-processed drum signals...

Nice song, but that gated snare sound is so obnoxious. I know it was knew and not overdone at the time, but man...after a while it's like " ok, we get it - when you hit the snare there's a dense wash of reverb that cuts off suddenly an instant later without fading naturally...reverby, but clean...and oh so eighties, but JEEZ...." Phil Collins L O V E S gated snares...

this was ok - if it was classed as a Phil Collins song ... but labelled as a Genesis song ... hmmmm

Such a powerful track. Thank you, Genesis, for putting into words would I can't. I went through this, I went through the "you're no son of mine," and never will I be able to erase those words from my mind. One of the only ways I can deal with it is through music, and Genesis, this song means so much to me. Nothing else can do it like this one. Thanks, forever.
