Henry Mancini was a genius at composing, and arranging music for television, and the big screen. He was one of three arrangers to openly incorporate jazz-elements into his charts. The others being Lalo Schifrin, and Nelson Riddle. He first came to my attention as kid, when I watched the television-series: Mr. Lucky. Mancini's theme was fantastic, to say the least! His score for the film: "Hatari" was my next exposure to the maestro. Then came the 'Panther-films' with Peter Sellers. Especially "Meglio Stasera" snapped-out by Fran Jeffries. His "Days of Wine and Roses" will always be a classic score, which blends orchestra, and chorale deftly. Mancini was tapped again for the "The Party" score with Claudine Longet singing the winsome: "Nothing To Lose". Some of my personal favorites by Hank are: "Blue Mantilla", "Lujon", and "The Lonely Princess". Beautiful charts on all three. Cheers!!
