This one deserves more love, it is'nt as good as Alphaville but still an amazing album. It has this scary, unsettling, but sometimes comforting atmosphere, it's like a sophisticated Gorguts. With that said i don't think it not being jazzy enough is a problem.

Chernobyl Blues is chilling. Yoshiko Ohara's screams are terrifying and the russian language is just another fine stroke in the horrific picture.

Great album but I'm not sold on the "jazz" elements. Some tracks like Cosmopolis (or Metropolis from the previous LP) are legit but It often sounds like how most other rock/metal acts who try a little too hard to sound jazzy. Hexatonic minor scales, major 6th/7th chords, hihat stirring, etc. Don't get me wrong, I actually enjoy the sound of "pseudo-jazz" myself, there's nothing wrong with it, but I'm not hearing the kind of next-level reinvention that everyone's busting their nuts over. With some exceptions I can't detect any implementation of improv or jazz polyrhythms or whatever within the dissonant metal. It's too compartmentalized, the album usually just swings back and forth between metal or jazz and doesn't really combine them.

I honestly liked Lower World and Gotham Luxe, but I couldn't stand no more. I really tried. Although this was something else, I will hear their next release. Perhaps it was to jazzy.

Everyone's using the word 'masterpiece' but this really is. There's a genuine level of musical genius on display here. Very few musicians could have written and performed this album, not just in terms of execution but in terms of the vision and the fundamental songwriting ability on display here. Gets better with every listen.
