It's so self-serious, forever yearning to be so emotionally fraught that the vitality and intensity of passionate romance never be extinguished. This only ever leads to myopic, self-flagellating narcissism. You can get over yourself and still live a vibrant, meaningful life. Relationships require a playful curiosity, a sense of fun, and perhaps a dash of irony and soupçon of forgiveness. These two are destined to self-destruct because the fatalistic conceit of their relationship can only ever become one thing. How boring! How dull and drab! Indigo, my dear, go outside, pet a puppy, kiss a baby, hug your mother and her mother, touch grass (ugh), etc. I suspect her desire to venture into pop sounds and structures will help matters.

i think this need for corresponding and exaggerated passion can seem like something very immature and dispensable when someone is already able to value themselves and the simplicity of things, but because of the process that most of all have to go through when reaching that point of maturity, it ends up being a very relatable song (at least for me haha)

I sympathize with her plight, the cultural pressures to act a certain way based on your age run deep. Part of my problem with this kind of emotional ethos is that it mandates that the young need to engage in borderline solipsism to self-actualize. You can have it all without wasting years on teeth-gnashing, pseudo-romance that ultimately leads to social alienation, emotional dysregulation, and a host of other mental disorders that you then need to devote immense time and energy to crawling out from under. But, I am a bit of a sucker for tragic yearning, so I appreciate how one could relate.
