Sad the way his career ended, not with a bang but a whimper. Nice to see him getting more recognition posthumously. He really is one of a kind.

Seen clips Youtube....Clever Lyrics, Fantastically portrayed characters and guitar playing too!.........Comic genius.....with intelligence. He's a one man show without thee sense that he's showing off....A great performer all round.

I saw that show too. Jake's just brilliant. I'd never seen or heard of him before. His songs are both happy and sad at the same time. There is just something about them that just makes you play them over and over. I felt quite sorry for him after watching the show. Not sure why really.

Brilliant biog of Jake on BBC2 this evening reintroduced me to this wonderful collection of French-tinged, Anglo-eccentricity. 10 minutes' downloading from iTunes and I'm basking in nostalgia for watching him on the TV back in the 70s. Really we need a DVD or two though as so much of the expression and comedy is in watching him play. Fantastic.

Jake Thackray is such a great songwriter. He has this ability of writing humourous, catchy songs, as well as songs with an ironic sadness to them. Ideal is a great album

The word 'genius' is far too often over-used in the wrong context these days but without following that fashion I do feel it is more than applicable here... as the word 'under-rated'
