JOANA ZIMMER treads new grounds with her third masterpiece and presents, an album filled with emotion and enthralling dramatic art with the glamour of a true Diva. A rare fusion of talent and passion makes the 25 year old simply captivating.
The birth of her new album is in some measure due to her idol, Barbra Streisand. The idea came from a concert, where Joana Zimmer performed her own breathtaking interpretation of the Streisand- song "Papa Can You Hear Me". Inspired by the timelessly elegant classics emerged the new album "Showtime"- a personal selection of her favourite songs from the 70's and 80's.
However, the album is more than just cover songs. With an opulent orchestra and modern pop elements produced in London and Berlin, each song reflects her own personal attribute. Through her voice and emotion, Joana Zimmer relinquishes the songs with her own personal glamour.
Classics from Billy Joel to George Michael have been newly arranged by top UK producers such as Brio Taliaferro ( Sugarbabes, James Blunt), Pete Kirtly (Mutya Buena, Monrose) and Valicon (Silbermond) and astonishingly set on stage. Backed up by Orchestra arranger Sebastian Studzky (Rammstein, Roger Cicero) the album preserves its own special charm and grandeur.
There are also interesting musical guests to be found on the album: together with the Soul/R&B group Boyz II Men emerges a new version of Marvin Gaye`s "Aint Nothing Like The Real Thing", with Xavier Naidoo an exceptional version of Paul Simons "50 Ways To Leave Your Lover". Joana also jives alongside with Stefan Gwildis to Bill Withers' "Just The Two Of Us". She shows in these three duets and in other songs, to name a few, Sananda Maitreya (fka Terence Trent D'Arby) " Sign You Name", Michael Jackson "I Just Can't Stop Loving You", Supertramp "Logical Song" and George Michael "Kissing A Fool", an astonishing spectrum of sparkling classics and song pearls.
Born in Freiburg and brought up bilingually in the USA, Joana moved to Berlin many years ago and has been devoted to music ever since she was a child. At the age of 15 she had already appeared in the cities most prestigious Jazz clubs and continued to work on impressive facets of her voice. She independently organized appearances in clubs and hotels, and alongside modelling, saved up enough to pay the fees for her first demo. With so much talent and persistence, she was guaranteed for success"
2005 Joana released her debut album "My Innermost" (including the hit single 'I believe'), which after a short time went gold. Soon after she was awarded with the German Radio Award, and with a Radio Regenbogen Award as Best Newcomer, and also an Echo and a Comet nomination in 2005. Her second album "The Voice In Me" was released in 2006 and tied in seamlessly with "My Immermost".
Her fame has spread outside the German boarders, Joana's powerful and emotional live performances has enchanted audiences, just recently as a support act for Zucchero.
In the meantime Joana Zimmer has won over the last of the sceptics, convincing them that she is an extraordinary singer. Above all being on the stage and performing live gives her artistic room to keep on developing.
" I love to sing songs with a story to tell. So much that it was a great pleasure to fill these treasures with new life and energy. It has also always been one of my dreams to record with an orchestra. They are all special moments that I will never forget."
