I never would have gotten into jazz without this album, it really opened my mind to new sounds outside of my normal listening habits. You'd probably hate my guts, Fripp but thanks, big dawg.

Мой любимый у Малинового Короля. Для меня он лучше, чем дебютник. Обожаю меллотрон в Cirkus. Вообще три первые песни - просто фантастика! Lady of the Dancing Water

Haven't listened to the entire King Crimson discography yet, only couple of albums until this point. So far Lizard is my favourite album.

The more I listen to it the more I think it could be my favorite KC album. [2] Sorry Thrak :/ This album is magnificent, the jazz influence that surrounds it is simply brilliant. I like Gordon Haskell's voice, and also his bass playing. I think Greg Lake would not fit this album as Haskell did. That intro of Happy Family haunts me, and Lizard is the greatest epic of KC, easily, Jon Anderson in his prime!

"Overall, the album is unlistenable. Our remastering shows just how unlistenable. I am unable to recommend that anyone part with their hard-earned pay for this one, unless they want to take it to parties and play it at unwelcome guests. There are some "Lizard" lovers, I know. They must be very strange." -Robert Fripp

Ha! I'd forgotten that Fripp said that about Lizard and its fans. IMO just illustrates how often artists are often bad at judging the quality of their own works. Of course, a lot of critics and Crimson fans share his assessment, but it's been one of my favorite KC records if not my absolute favorite for a number of years now.

Instrumentally immaculate, but this might be the worst voice on a Crimso' album, I read somewhere that Fripp actually hated Haskell

It's my favorite, too. I consider Starless and Bible Black to be their "best," but Lizard is my personal favorite. "Cirkus" is one of my absolute favorite Crimson songs, "Indoor Games" and "Happy Family" are both great, "Lady of the Dancing Water" is hauntingly gorgeous, the best of the group's "gentle" songs, and the title track is, as hessel-z said, one of the band's best epics. In fact I might say it's their best epic; the portion depicting a massive battle is breathtaking.

The more I listen to it the more I think it could be my favorite KC album. "Cirkus" is a dark and uncanny masterpiece, "Lady of the Dancing Water" is the most beautiful tune the band ever produced and the title track is one of the band's best epics, I also like the vocal parts with Jon Anderson a lot. I love the jazz influence in this album and it works out perfectly in every song, imo.

I have several different versions of this album and Steven Wilson's remix is by far the best to my ears. It's such a shame that so many people are scared off by the lukewarm/bad reviews written about this album by the music press because it's really one of King Crimson's best and most adventurous albums, which is saying something given the propensity of the various Crimson iterations to experiment, improvise and -- yes -- progress. It's like some sort of Medieval Jazz/Rock Fusion with a dollop of Bartók thrown in for good measure. I love every track on here. As CoryellsGhost said, "Cirkus" and "Lizard" are real standouts, though.

I am angry with myself for not thinking to listen to this album until quite recently. It's incredible!

Haha I second that, guylikesfrogs. This is a weird album, really, but I've always liked it. It was the first KC album I heard (is that unusual?)

I struggle with this album, mainly because of the odd jazzy influences and far-out vibes of the earlier songs. The title track, however, is flipping amazing. Some of the nicest stuff I've ever heard Jon Anderson sing, and the jazzy influences work quite nicely with more room to break out the chops more comfortably. Heavenly track. Hopefully I'll be able to get into the others if I listen to it enough...

First listen to this was "meh.." But I can feel it slowly growing on me. Hmm.. King Crimson isn't a band from my generation. But to listen to the inspiration of my inspirations.. Definitely an awesome task of discovery! Loving Lizard. It's a lengthy track, but man.. It's so beautiful.
