It is almost impossible to avoid the math-- Nada Surf really has been playing for 20 years, and takes to the stage on a cool, late January 28th, at the "4th and B" in San Diego. They were well received by a nearly full GA and a sold out upper deck VIP section. A three band support cast warmed up the crowd with alternating nearly experimental latin dance infused world sounds, or local surf earnestness. The Nada Surf set avoided the angsty "Popular", and trended more toward a far more reflective "See These Bones", and "When I Was Young", boosting with a surprising Depeche Mode cover. This tour is a push for their most recent album "The Stars are Indifferent to Astronomy". May these same indifferent stars shine brightly on Matthew and Company this season. Final Assessment: Consistently good album, Very good performance.
