NCT is a South Korean boy band formed by S.M. Entertainment. The group debuted with their first sub-unit NCT U is composed of six members: Taeil, Taeyong, Doyoung, Ten, Jaehyun and Mark.
Pre-debut
The members are all part of the pre-debut group SMROOKIES created by S.M. Entertainment. Taeyong, Ten, Jaehyun, and Mark were introduced in 2013, while Taeil and Doyoung were introduced in 2015.
2016: NCT U
In January 2016, Lee Soo-Man held SMTown: New Culture Technology 2016 at SM Coex Artium spoke about strategy of culture contents business under brand boy group NCT initialism of Neo Culture Technology, will be debuting different teams based in different countries around the world. S.M Entertainment launched the two teasers of the project The Origin and Synchronization of your Dreams, which includes five members of SMRookies: Taeyong, Hansol, Ten, Mark, and Jaehyun. A week later, the 3rd teaser was launched with the name The 7th Sense and includes a SMRookies member, Winwin.
On April 4, 2016 S.M. Entertainment revealed two teaser pictures for members, Jaehyun and Mark. SM Entertainment also announced would be debuting the first unit of NCT called NCT U, which debut with 2 digital singles and several release on April 9 and April 10. On April 6, S.M. Entertainment announced that the first NCT U sub-unit consist of Taeyong, Doyoung, Ten, Jaehyun, and Mark would be release their first single The 7th Sense on April 9 and the second NCT U sub-unit consist of Taeil, Doyoung, and Jaehyun would be release their second single Without You on April 10. NCT U will officially debut on V-app live broadcast on April 9 and 10, hosted by Super Junior member, Kim Heechul. Their first debut stage will be in China at the Top Chinese Music Awards event held on April 9, which also includes SMRookies members: Kun and Winwin. They will also make their official debut stage in Korea at KBS Music Bank on April 15.
