The only version really worth hearing-- and it is incredibly good--is from Too Much Too Soon,1974, which as the title suggests, probably should've been their swan song. Great album and band --Johanson, Thunders, Kane, Sylvain and Nolan. Unfortunately, last.fm doesn't even show that album on this page.

A magnificent capstone to their recording career. For once, the Dolls drop their kinda-ironic (do they know it's ironic? I'm not sure) bravado, and they churn out a manifesto for tolerance straight from the scummy, scuzzy heart of rock 'n' roll. Less cluttered than their normal arrangements, it's just the rhythm section pounding away behind two guitars--one buzzing along in the left channel, the other squealing in the right. Then there's the sax that pops in around the halfway point, giving voice to the song's painful cry for acceptance for human frailty. And Johansen's singing is largely without his usual jokey theatrics--this one's from the heart, folks. The message is simple (and simply true): we're always gonna want more than we have, more than we'll ever have, and more than we'll ever deserve; and all other people can do is accept it. And no, the Dolls won't beg for your acceptance. They deserve it, dammit--just cuz they're human beings.
