It's funny how the rest of Nocturnus hijacked the band from Mike Browning, eventually releasing "Ethereal Tomb" which is a good album but very lackluster in comparison to their early stuff with Browning. Then years later Browning returns, with no other og guys, and Paradox totally sounds like classic Nocturnus. Browning is boss.

Bands who cram AD at the end of their name to gain back what little fanbase they had to begin with...hardly pan out or sound close to their original composition. I'm here to say here, that is not the case and Paradox is as good a return to form for a band I've heard out of a band like this in a long while. Well done.

What a stellar return!!! Paradox take back exactly where things had stopped after the release of The Key, starting with an organic production, and an unambiguous illustration in the same style. If the occult imagery so dear to Mike Browning obviously resurfaces, the new quintet also strives to find musical codes that once made all the singularity and avant-garde of Nocturnus on its first album. Built on a complex architecture and atypical riffing immediately identifiable, taking directly to the guts (Paleolithic, Apotheosis), transcended by high-level solos, and by these layers of keyboards that sometimes thicken the atmosphere (Procession of the Equinoxes) or make it so surprising (The Bandar Sign). Each piece of Paradox thus surprises by the quality of its calibration and its interpretation. Mike Browning, who musically forms the work, has managed in my humble opinion to fully regain the strength and attraction of the unique death metal he had imagined over thirty years ago.

It's an awesome record. I thought that VLTIMAS album would be AOTY. Paradox may actually be my AOTY.

More Nocturnus than Nocturnus (Ethereal Tomb) is their motto...? New album is solid. The "singles" are probably my least favorite tracks on it, though.

Сильно средний альбом у Браунинга получился, он будто боялся отойти от звучания и идей The Key, ну получили собсно вторую часть дебютника, без каких-либо наворотов.
