Awesome closer to the trilogy of songs that starts with "The Roof is Leaking" and "Droned". Very Stevie Wonder-like. It's like prog-soul-funk. Who says Phil Collins abandoned his prog roots when he went solo? At least they still shine through on Face Value.

Amazing collaboration here with the EW&F horns and the children's choir... this track is Phil working some mad Stevie Wonder-esque magic. Always makes me get up and dance around.

I've always had the sense that "Hand in Hand" was the culmination of a sort of mini-suite that included "The Roof is Leaking" and "Droned," the way they transition from one to the next. It's such a strong, dynamic closer to side one of the album (back when albums had sides), and also made for an amazing opener at live shows.

Did anyone ever see the schlocky '60s or '70s remake of Capra's "Lost Horizons"? Had Michael York and Sally Kellerman in it? This song kinda reminds me of the children singing with Bobby Van in that movie. That may be another reason I like it.

This was on Phil's first solo outing, and I agree that it represents unusual cheerfulness in his oeuvre. njmama, I agree: good all the way through (maybe not for today's many ADHA-afflicted). I believe this is Earth Wind and Fire's horn section, if memory serves.
