Welp. It was a good run. I can usually separate art from an artist but considering how sensual this dude's music is, I don't think I'm comfortable revisiting his work knowing full-well that it's rooted in grooming and even samples non-consensual sex.

But isn't this a bit like saying those women are lucky to have been traumatized by a dude writing sensual music, because otherwise their ordeal and their courage to speak up would merit weaker reaction from the audience? Is it somehow less painful to be abused by a deconstructed glitch-noise producer? Is an abusive free improv drummer ok to keep their high profile and platform just because they make abstract music?

I was just trying to grasp the logic of this flexibility in separating the art from the artist based on the suggestiveness of the art rather than the asshole-ness of the artist. Personally, I can't see myself revisiting his stuff even if it were some drones or noises - just because of the harm done... Here, I did it without a single question🎉

I knew you could do it. But yeah, you sound like someone who drops an entire band when one member has a problematic history that bubbles up to the surface, which is fine. I personally do not. Or not typically, rather. I may opt to stop supporting the band financially, if the offender is still actively present in creating music and touring with them. But continuing to celebrate a band’s prior catalog after they drop their drummer due to his or her abusive behavior ≠ continuing to listen to a solo artist who wrote (and writes?) songs about his encounters with barely-legal girls, which he also opts to candidly sample within his sensual music. It’s completely fine if you scoff are both instances... but if you can’t see how the gravity of one outweighs the other, I don’t really know what to tell you.

I totally get your point, I think our views and attitudes aren't that much different. And no, I don't have a rule set in stone, saying I'll always unconditionally drop an entire band based on one member's problematic history. I often take an approach similar to yours, depending on the case. I didn't even bring that whole 'shitty tour drummer' angle up. The point was about the sole/main creator of the music - I was trying to say that regardless if it's abstract or personal/sensual, it's the person's behavior and the real-life harm they'd done that drives my reaction. Looking back at it, it's probably too much nitpicking for an LFM shoutbox:))
