A native of Allentown, Pennsylvania, trumpeter Rick Braun first surfaced as a member of the jazz-fusion outfit Auracle, formed while he was a student at the prestigious Eastman School of Music. After two LPs the group disbanded, and Braun turned to songwriting, scoring a hit with REO Speedwagons Here with Me; in time he directed his focus to contemporary jazz, issuing his solo debut Intimate Secrets in 1993. After touring with Sade, he returned in 1994 with Night Walk as well as the seasonal release Christmas Present. With 1995s Beat Street, Brauns popularity continued to snowball, with 1996s smash Body and Soul launching the NAC chart-topper Notorious. A two-time winner of the Gavin Reports smooth jazz artist of the year award, he returned in 1998 with South of Midnight. He also collaborated with Boney James on the 2000 release Shake It Up. Kisses in the Rain followed a year later.

来自美国宾州的瑞克布朗毕业于纽约“伊士曼晋乐学校”(Eastman School of Music)，之后与友人合组融合爵士乐团，也发过两张专辑，不过事业上的第一次转机出现在1988年，由REO Speedweagon 翻唱他的一首摇滚创作 Here With Me 登上告示牌排行Top 20，从此他便在流行、摇滚乐圈打开知名度，著名的艺人包括洛Rod Stewart 、Sade、Tina Turner、Glenn Frey、Natalie Cole、Tom Petty、Crowded House等都借重过他的小号魅力，于是他不仅成为众艺人录音室乐手中的首选，同时引来华纳唱片的副厂Bluemoon与他签约。
93年的首张专辑 “Intimate Secrets”以都会融合爵士打入市场，接连又发“Night Walk”、“Christmas Present”逐渐提升知名度，95年的第四张专辑“Beat Street”以高度的电台播放率，首次为他夺得13周当代爵士冠军专辑，他个人则连续两年分别获Gavin杂志颁赠“年度最佳艺人”与“年度最佳专辑”； 97年的专辑 “Body And Soul”瑞克的风格转向更流畅抒情的现代灵魂、放克爵士曲调，缔造了连续28周霸占告示牌排行前15名的佳绩，辑中还出现了曾经在抒情爵士榜(Smooth Jazz Track Chart) 上夺过年中和年终冠军的单曲 Notorious，并让他二度获颁Gavin杂志的“年度最佳艺人”。
气势正旺的瑞克，98年年底发表了最新专辑“全力出击”(Full Stride)，接续Body and Soul的调性，更加强编曲的细腻程度与对每首曲子旋律部份的雕琢。瑞克将录音地点拉到自家录音室以便利不计时数将音乐性修整完美，演奏的乐器也从小号增加键盘、翼号，跨刀艺人包括老搭档吉他手Jeff Golub和Peter White，贝斯手Cliff Hugo，鼓手/键盘手Donnell Spencer Jr.及曾经与Stan Getz、John Scornfield、Mike Stern合作的钢琴手Mitchel Forman等多位当代爵士菁英，即便专辑并不讲究即兴趣味，同样能清晰表现各位乐手相互支援的默契。
专辑中的 Nightfall 借重了大量的键盘音效，幽幽迷蒙的翼号描绘着夜幕低垂的天色与环境， One Love、South Of Midnight是首非常讲究情调气氛的慢板，Chian Bath 、 Aqua Funk 、同样以弱音小喇叭为主角，在编曲上变化性大，而 Soul on Soul中因为Maysa Leak的人声，让原本已经抒情动人的歌曲，倍增无限妩媚。
