I think the 2:25-3:17 part is a culmination of emotion in the song - so it works... emotions build up and then shatter.

I really enjoy the song from 2:25-3:17. Would prefer more of the song to sound like that portion!

Well, I honestly think it would be better WITHOUT the 2:25 -- 3:17 part. It's just my opinion. Still love the song though :D
