For me, it it all comes down to that last, fluttering chord I think. It holds on with such a tight grip, squeezing and pressing so hard until it's white with numbness. The cautious, desperate energy behind it is beyond any rational description - I don't think there's any point in deconstructing it musically. I just know there's a drive there, a stomping, adamant persistence to keep going, and I'll try. I promise I'll try.

I remember back in the early aughts of last.fm back when the "top listeners" stat actually was accurate, there was one user who listened to this song like 30,000+ times. I wonder if they're still out there listening to it constantly.

Yeah! I remember when I'd plug in my ipod to get the scrobbles from it, there'd be an error that showed I listened to a song like a dozen times when I only listened to it once. It would show a full album listen to be like 120 scrobbles (e.g. 10 songs x 12 plays each) which inflated my plays. I'd have to manually go in and remove most of those duplicates. But there's probably people doing that other thing with Spotify just for the clout I guess...

more precisely i just listened through everything up thru Kiss Me yesterday and other than the songs i already knew (just stuff from Greatest Hits so like JLH, Why Can't I...?, etc.) this and Fight are my two favs off any of the albums tbh. other than some i already knew like JLH, Inbetween Days
